This new version boasts exceptional character build customization and an almost endless variety of skill combinations. Even in its early stage, the game offers a complete endgame with tough bosses and generous rewards.
Explore ways to tap into certain potent abilities within the game, as these are now associated with a novel resource named “Spirit” in “Path of Exile II”. Discover its intricacies and methods for acquiring more by following the information provided below.
What is Spirit?
In simpler terms, Spirit serves a unique role for the player, enabling persistent character effects like auras, self-resurrecting minions, meta gems, and other passive abilities. Unlike mana, which regenerates over time when spent, Spirit is not depleted but rather allocated by skills that grant ongoing effects. These allocated Spirits cannot be used again until the corresponding effect is manually disabled by you, the player. This means that the maximum amount of Spirit a player has determines how many passive effects can be active simultaneously.
In a simpler manner, you can modify the Spirit cost of passive abilities, which enhances or changes their effects, by using socketed Support Gems. This process multiplies the Spirit cost, and the increase is shown as “Cost Multiplier” or “Additional Reservation” in the description of the Support Gem.
How to Get Spirit
Although Spirit sources may be limited, players can boost their maximum Spirit in three primary methods:
Spirit in the Acts
In each stage of the game campaign, a boss is encountered who grants players a gemmed skull as reward. This skull boosts the player’s maximum Spirit level by 30 permanently. During the early access phase, these rewards can be obtained not only on the first playthrough but also during subsequent runs on Cruel difficulty, enabling those who collect them all to enhance their Spirit by a total of 180 points.
Spirit-increasing Equipment
Certain gear can increase the player’s maximum spirit while equipped. All sceptres passively increase the player’s maximum Spirit by 100 when equipped, making them powerful sources of the relatively scarce resource. Additionally, some sceptres grant players passive effects that do not reserve any Spirit, such as a free minion or aura effect. Similarly, Sun Amulets grant a small amount of spirit, though at a much smaller range of 10 to 15. Additionally, certain magic and rare items can randomly roll prefix modifiers to increase the Spirit granted from the item by a percentage. Players looking to maximize their Spirit will want to craft primarily on sceptres, before moving on to amulets if needing more.
Spirit-increasing Ascendancy Classes
Currently, during the early access stage, only two Ascendancy Classes have been introduced that boost spiritual abilities: The Infernalist, belonging to the Witch class, and the Invoker, associated with the Monk class.
The Infernalist Ascendancy provides the Beidat’s Will node, setting aside 25% of a player’s total life energy. However, for every 25 units of maximum life, players gain an additional Spirit point. Although the life reservation might seem high, the initial prerequisite node, Altered Flesh, can mitigate this vulnerability by transforming some cold, lightning, and physical damage into fire and chaos damage. Moreover, Infernalists may find it necessary to enhance their maximum life or life recovery, regardless of the Beidat’s Will node, to counteract the self-damage caused by their Demon Form or Infernal Flame abilities.
As a gamer, I find the Ascendancy of the Invoker particularly intriguing, with its Lead Me Through Grace… node standing out. This node strips Spirit gains from equipment, yet awards 1 Spirit for every 6 points of Evasion and 15 Energy Shield on my body armor. In the later stages of the game, this could be a remarkable wellspring of Spirit, especially when I craft top-tier armor to fully capitalize on the Spirit this node offers. To add to its appeal, Lead Me Through Grace… seamlessly complements its subsequent nodes, such as Protect me from Harm, which decreases my evasion rating but lets Evasion function as Physical Damage Reduction – a rare yet indispensable defensive statistic.
