Elden Ring Movie Will Reportedly Be A24’s Most Expensive Production Ever

Fans of the game were thrilled to hear that A24 will produce an Elden Ring movie, with Alex Garland directing.

Over the past ten years, A24 has built an incredible reputation for creating critically and commercially successful independent films. They’ve even won two Best Picture Oscars for Everything Everywhere All at Once (2023) and One Battle After Another (2026), and have produced other highly acclaimed films like Civil War, Uncut Gems, The Brutalist, and Marty Supreme.

Alex Garland, known for writing and directing films like Ex Machina, Civil War, and Warfare, is adapting the popular video game Elden Ring. He’s a dedicated player of the game, which will likely influence the adaptation. Recently, the production details were finalized, and many of the actors who will appear in the adaptation have been announced.

The announced cast members are as follows, with no characters having been revealed yet:

Kit Connor (Warfare)

Ben Whishaw (Peter Hujar’s Day)

Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus)

Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga)

Havana Rose Liu (Tuner, Bottoms)

Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina)

Jonathan Pryce (The Crown)

Ruby Cruz (Bottoms)

Nick Offerman (The Last of Us)

John Hodgkinson (Dear England)

Jefferson Hall (House of the Dragon)

Emma Laird (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple)

Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy)

Elden Ring Will Be A24’s Most Expensive Project Yet

The Hollywood Reporter says A24 is planning to spend over $100 million on its upcoming Elden Ring movie, making it the company’s most expensive project to date. Filming is expected to take about 100 days. Previously, A24’s biggest production was Marty Supreme, which cost between $60 and $70 million to make and earned around $180 million in theaters.

While there’s a lot of enthusiasm for the project and trust in Garland and A24, some people question how well Elden Ring will translate to another medium. This is mainly because FromSoftware’s games are known for subtle storytelling and take place in a massive, sprawling world.

It’s still unclear if the upcoming movie will directly retell the story of the game, or if it will be a new, separate story set in the same world. I suspect it will either closely follow the game’s plot, or be a completely original story that doesn’t connect to the events of the highly praised game.
