Michael Saylor Likens Satoshi Nakamoto to Prometheus, Here’s Why

As a seasoned researcher with a keen interest in the ever-evolving world of technology and finance, I found the encounter between Michael Saylor and Dave Portnoy particularly insightful. Having closely followed their respective journeys, it was fascinating to witness the exchange of ideas and perspectives on Bitcoin.

Michael Saylor was invited by Dave Portnoy to discuss Bitcoin in Portnoy’s studio. Previously, Portnoy owned a modest amount of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, but later sold them all. Now, it appears that Portnoy regrets his decision, as he watches MicroStrategy, led by Saylor, consistently purchase large amounts of Bitcoin.

Portnoy and his Bitcoin story

In the year 2020, the creator of Barstool Sports, Portnoy, invested around two million dollars in Bitcoin. However, he later decided to sell his Bitcoins in August, just as MicroStrategy made its initial purchase of Bitcoin.

Today, he admitted to confessing that a statement by the Winklevoss twins in 2020 about Elon Musk going to space in search of abundant gold left him feeling anxious, causing him to sell his Bitcoin. Earlier this year, during summer, he announced his intention to re-enter the market and buy Bitcoin if its price dropped to $40,000 per coin.

Saylor explains Bitcoin and Satoshi to Portnoy

In a conversation with Portnoy, Michael Saylor described Bitcoin using sports analogies, likening it to a team of all-star players such as Michael Jordan, who are digitized and can perform indefinitely. He explained that you can either watch or participate in this team, and even if they outscore you, you still win together. Saylor emphasized that no matter where you are, there are hundreds of millions of people on the Bitcoin team. His advice to Portnoy was, “Join team Bitcoin.” He further added that not only do you win the game, but you also accumulate wealth as you win.

Regarding Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic figure or collective behind the creation of Bitcoin, Saylor told Portnoy that Satoshi is indeed a real person, but their identity is irrelevant. In his words, “We’re all Satoshis now.” This phrase is often used to express shared understanding or experience. Saylor compared Satoshi to Prometheus, who stole fire from the ancient Greek gods and gave it to humanity, implying that Bitcoin, like fire, will have a profound impact on human life in the future.

Saylor also reminded Portnoy that “Bitcoin gives you control of your money.” That’s “egalitarian, humanitarian, and economically smart,” Saylor believes. He ended the talk by saying that he should join the team Bitcoin.
