As a gamer who’s been around since the early 2000s, I can confidently say that Counter-Strike has been a staple in my gaming library for decades. The series is undeniably a PC powerhouse, but it seems like Valve is still holding out on expanding its reach to other platforms.

Known as the epitome of first-person tactical shooter games, it has been a defining aspect of PC gaming since its debut in 2000. Despite the release of Counter-Strike 2 in 2023, the series remains a powerful presence on computers.
Could it be said that Counter-Strike has managed to attract players beyond just PC users, similar to many other multiplayer shooter games?
Is Counter-Strike Only on PC?
It’s quite astonishing that Counter-Strike 2 hasn’t officially been launched for Mac users, considering its precursor, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, did offer official Mac compatibility. While it’s possible to play CS2 on a Mac, the version is not an official one.
CS2 isn’t playable on any console currently, but CS:GO can still be found on older consoles. CS:GO was initially released for Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2013, and it’s still accessible on these platforms today. On PC, CS:GO was replaced by CS2 when the current game launched last year, but as of September 2023, the Xbox 360 version is still active online.
On Steam Deck, the game can be played, but it hasn’t been optimized specifically for Valve’s handheld console. According to its compatibility rating on Steam, the game displays mouse and keyboard icons, along with small text within the game that might be hard to read on a smaller display screen.
It appears that CS2 hasn’t been launched with a console version yet, suggesting that it may not be high on Valve’s current list of priorities. However, keep in mind that Riot Games eventually introduced a console version for VALORANT after its initial release, so there is a possibility that Valve might follow suit.
