Path of Exile 2: How Long to Beat

Path of Exile 2: How Long to Beat

As a seasoned Path of Exile veteran, I can confidently say that the release of Early Access to Path of Exile 2 has only added fuel to my never-ending ARPG fire. With over 2000 hours clocked in the original game, I was initially skeptical about how much more content there could be. Boy, was I wrong!

It’s well-known that the initial version of Path of Exile boasts an incredibly expansive gameplay. With its massive 10-Act storyline and nearly endless endgame, coupled with replayability through leagues, countless players have invested hundreds, even thousands of hours into PoE. Though not all aspects of Path of Exile 2 are available in Early Access, it still offers a challenging, lengthy, and almost fully realized experience.

In this walkthrough, we delve into the number of Acts present in PoE 2, the duration of its primary storyline, and potential factors that could extend the time required to complete it beyond usual standards. Essentially, good fortune with loot drops and mastering the game mechanics are two key aspects that can significantly shorten the time needed to conquer PoE 2.

How Many Path Of Exile 2 Acts Are There?

Path of Exile 2: How Long to Beat

Since its Early Access debut, Path of Exile 2 currently includes three separate acts set in distinct regions across Wraeclast. It’s important to note that this is not the full extent of the campaign content. At present, players can expect Acts 1 through 3 to guide them up to level 45, while the main gameplay unfolds around level 65.

Once you’ve completed Acts 1, 2, and 3 once, you’ll gain access to the “Cruel” difficulty setting. This option lets you retrace your steps back to the beginning of Act 1, where you can experience a tougher version of the first three acts. This additional challenge bridges the level range from 45 to 65, but during Early Access (or potentially for the final release), an additional three Acts will be introduced to advance the storyline further.

When Acts 4 through 6 are added, Cruel difficulty will be removed from the game.

As per the statement made by co-founder Jonathan Rogers at Grinding Gear Games, it is expected that completing Acts 1 to 3 in Path of Exile 2 will take around 25 hours. In their Endgame Reveal video, Rogers mentioned that this playtime might approximately double when the full release becomes available.

In the game testing, each act can take different lengths of time to finish based on factors such as your involvement in conversations with NPCs, your proficiency, and your fortune. Previous ARPG experience is relevant, but since PoE 2 plays quite differently from PoE 1, even seasoned players from the initial game are finding it challenging to adapt to the new style.

Based on how swiftly you can complete content, your success in obtaining upgrades, your interest in exploring the storyline and dialogues, and your familiarity with the Action Role-Playing Game genre, it might take between 8 to 15 hours to conquer each Act.

It’s generally thought that playing through the first three Acts of PoE 2 might take around 25 to 50 hours, considering factors like gameplay style and familiarity with the game.

In my gaming adventures, I’ve found that the initial part of the campaign in Early Access – Cruel Difficulty – isn’t everything there is to play yet. What it does offer is a replay of Acts 1 through 3 on a harder setting, similar to a New Game Plus mode for the campaign. This tougher challenge is crucial if you want to reach the endgame of Path of Exile 2 around Level 65. Fortunately, since I’ll be more experienced this time, it should take less time to complete compared to my first run.

As a seasoned gamer, I’d estimate that it’ll likely take me between 40 to 60 hours to conquer all the acts, even the tougher ones on Cruel difficulty (from Act 1 to Act 3). Once I’ve done that, I’ll unlock the endgame content.

For fans of ARPG games, it’s important to understand that completing Path of Exile 2 is only the beginning. While you may be able to “finish” PoE 2 in around a few dozen hours, the main storyline represents just the first half. The real game opens up once you unlock the Atlas and start progressing through endgame content. This unveils an entirely new aspect of the game, offering almost limitless progression on a map that is procedurally generated and connected.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve poured countless hours – we’re talking hundreds, even thousands – into the later stages of Path of Exile 1, spanning its long lifespan and numerous Leagues. If you aim to explore all that Path of Exile 2 has to offer and reach the pinnacle of your character’s potential by hitting Level 100, be prepared to invest a significant amount of time into the endgame of PoE 2.
