As a seasoned veteran of the Path of Exile universe, I must say that the introduction of Charms in Path of Exile 2 has certainly added a new layer of complexity and excitement to the game. The transition from Potions to Charms seems like a natural evolution, with the added intrigue of their trigger-based activation system.
In the upcoming game, Path of Exile 2, Charms have replaced the non-Life and non-Mana Potions that players could carry in the original Path of Exile. Unlike Potions, which granted unique benefits upon use, Charms in PoE 2 activate when their corresponding trigger is activated, but they can’t be equipped right away.
In the thrilling world of Path of Exile 2 as a fresh gamer, you’ll notice Charm Slots on your equipment interface initially, but they’re all locked up tight. Once you’ve picked up your first Charm and figured out how to unlock those slots, you can start enhancing your Charms by adding Modifiers and boosting their rarity to amplify the inherent bonuses they provide.
How To Equip Charms in Path of Exile 2
In Path of Exile 2, Charms can be equipped once you’ve obtained a Belt. You’ll likely find your initial Belt several levels into Act 1, but if you experience poor luck with drops, don’t forget to chat with the equipment merchants in town at each level. Their inventory refreshes every time you level up, providing new items for purchase.
In the initial stages of play, if there are no Belts for sale, save up your Gold instead. Keep making progress and continue to check different vendors periodically. By around Level 10, you should find a Belt available for purchase.

As a Path of Exile player, I’ve found that upgrading my belt armor can help me secure additional Charm slots. In the early stages of Acts 1 and 2, most belts will come equipped with just one slot. However, as I progress to Act 3, and especially when I reach the Cruel difficulty level and beyond, I’ve noticed that belts offering more Charm slots become much more prevalent.
How To Upgrade PoE 2 Charms
In contrast to typical equipment, Charm items in Path of Exile 2 can undergo multiple enhancements.
One method involves enhancing Uncommon and Enchanted Charms using Orbs of Augmentation and Exalted Orbs. For instance, Charms won’t bestow Stat points or free Skill levels, but they can boost Resistances, amplify their effects, and add modifiers similar to Potion modifiers that increase maximum Charges and speed up Charge regeneration.
An alternative method for enhancing Charm progress in Path of Exile 2 is by elevating their Rarity. Similar to other gear, you can make use of Orb of Transmutation and Regal Orb Currencies to boost the Rarity of Charms, transforming them from Normal to Magic, and then from Magic to Rare.
When enhancing items, use the Orb of Augmentation or Exalted Orb for additional properties. However, be cautious when applying a Regal Orb to a Magic Charm that already has two properties; it will only add one more property to a Magic item. If your item doesn’t already have the maximum of two modifiers as a Rare item, it will still remain with just two modifiers after being upgraded using a Regal Orb.
