As a seasoned gamer with decades of Final Fantasy experience under my belt, I must say that these character choices certainly bring back memories! From Tellah’s valiant yet feeble final stand to Kimahri’s frustratingly slow progression on the Sphere Grid, it seems that some characters in this beloved series are indeed weaker than others.
In any “Final Fantasy” game, magic is an essential element that players greatly enjoy using when controlling a character with magical abilities, capable of summoning mystical powers and casting devastating spells on enemies. Although not all “Final Fantasy” games strictly require characters to fulfill these roles, some games clearly define them.
Players will find themselves managing mages who might prove beneficial in certain scenarios but seem underpowered to handle combat. However, this isn’t necessarily a disadvantage, as many of the most valuable party members from the Final Fantasy series excel in supportive roles and aren’t designed for heavy damage absorption.
8. Dagger
Weaker Than Eiko But Can Still Hurt Enemies With Her Skills
Among the two mage characters that players command in “Final Fantasy 9”, it’s often argued that Dagger is less favored compared to the other, despite being valuable in her unique ways. This character primarily employs potent healing spells to bolster the party and also summons powerful Eidolons to attack enemies.
In most cases, it’s best to use Dagger’s superior Eidolons against more challenging adversaries. Despite this, she still ranks as a fairly strong character within the group in the game “Final Fantasy 9”, yet falls short compared to her companions.
7. Rosa
Takes A While Before She Can Finally Bring The Hurt To Enemies
In the game “Final Fantasy 4”, Rosa is cast as a White Mage, which means she excels in healing and support spells rather than direct combat. Consequently, due to her focus on these supportive abilities, she may not be the party’s most powerful member, often requiring protection so she can’t be easily defeated by enemy attacks.
Regardless of Rosa acquiring Holy, she remains a fragile character with immense power, and it’s crucial to safeguard her at any cost if adversaries focus their attacks on her. The loss of a healer can be catastrophic during challenging encounters, particularly in the 3D Remake of Final Fantasy 4.
6. White Mage Warrior Of Light
A Useful Support Job But Suffers From Weak Physical Attack And Defense
Initially, in the first ‘Final Fantasy’ game, players had the freedom to assign roles for each ‘Warrior of Light’. Often, it was essential to include White Mages in the party due to their valuable healing and supportive abilities, which proved crucial during challenging boss fights.
Instead of being up front where they would be vulnerable, these mages were strategically placed in the back row because they were easily knocked out after only a few blows. Moreover, their physical attack was rather insignificant, but once players obtained Holy abilities, their White Mage became valuable against tough enemies.
5. Quistis
Arguably Has The Worst Limit Break That Makes Her Less Viable In Combat
As a dedicated fan, I’ve found that the Junction system in this game ensures that every member of my party can be just as potent in battle, given careful management of magical resources. In other words, it’s all about using magic wisely. The true uniqueness lies not in raw combat power, but in each character’s distinct abilities.
Regarding her strength, it could be debated that Quistis is the least powerful party member in “Final Fantasy 8”. Her Limit Break, which enables Blue Magic, is intriguing, but it doesn’t come close to the raw power other characters bring to battle with their Desperation Attacks.
4. Quina
A Blue Mage Who Doesn’t Excel In Any Department
In the game Final Fantasy 9, Quina stands out among the characters as being quite peculiar. Players have the chance to enlist her early, boosting their party with a new combatant. Nevertheless, it doesn’t take long for players to discern that Quina isn’t nearly as potent in battles compared to other characters.
In Final Fantasy 9, Quina’s offensive capabilities aren’t as potent compared to other party members. Enhancing her Blue Magic skills might require time and effort that could be better invested elsewhere, making her less desirable as a combat asset. However, her abilities like Auto-Life and Mighty Guard can prove beneficial in certain situations. Regrettably, these benefits do little to alleviate Quina’s position as the least effective party member in the game.
3. Geomancer Job
The Usefulness Of This Job Is Too Situational
In the realm of Final Fantasy 5, I found myself utterly captivated by the enigmatic charm of the Geomancer job. Once unlocked, it became my go-to for moments of leisure and exploration. But, as I delved deeper into its abilities, I came to realize that this role is somewhat tailored to specific scenarios rather than being universally versatile.
It’s great when you confidently delve into dungeons without worrying about traps. However, this ease comes at a price: a Geomancer isn’t very effective in battles. The majority of their power relies on the type of terrain during combat, and enemies are usually resistant to the environmental magic that a Geomancer can employ.
2. Kimahri
His Position On The Sphere Grid Makes Him Lag Behind Every Party Member
Kimahri stands out as a captivating figure, particularly when encountering his fellow Ronso kin, but his application in gameplay can be quite vexing. Initially, he occupies an intriguing position on the Sphere Grid, making him a Blue Mage with the freedom to choose any path.
In essence, Kimahri will consistently trail behind other party members he mimics, making him one of the less potent characters within the series. His Blue Magic is limited to an Overdrive, which may hinder the power of his Ronso Rage and restrict players from utilizing these enemy skills whenever desired.
1. Tellah
Takes A While Before She Can Finally Bring The Hurt To Enemies
In “Final Fantasy 4”, when Tellah becomes part of the group, it’s evident that he’s long since reached the zenith of his abilities. His character is in such a state of decline that his MP development eventually halts, denying players the opportunity to unleash the potent spell Meteor.
In pursuit of Golbez for vengeance over his daughter’s demise, Tellah exerted himself to the utmost, repeatedly using Meteor until he could no more. It was evident that his frail body couldn’t sustain such a burden, and just prior to his death, he asked Cecil to avenge Anna.
