How to Unlock Ascendancy Class in PoE 2

Ascendancy classes are unlocked by completing the Trial of the Sekhemas in Act 2. However, before players can reach that area, they’ll first need to defeat Balbala in PoE 2. She is located in Traitor’s Passage leading to the Halani Gates.

Balbala might prove challenging to defeat. If you find her too hard to conquer at present, think about progressing through the rest of Act 2 first. This will give you better equipment and more skill points. Once you’re ready, head back to Traitor’s Passage and you should be able to overcome her easily.

Trial of the Sekhemas

The Trial of Sekhemas can be quite a tough and intricate obstacle course. Not only do certain areas impose debilitating effects on players, but it also features an Honour meter that behaves much like a health bar – each blow reduces your Honour, and if you deplete it completely, you’ll perish. Dying means you must restart the trial from scratch.

Completing the Trial of Sekhemas leads you to a prize chamber where you can unlock treasure chests using any keys gathered throughout the trial. However, what truly stands out is that there’s an altar in the room which bestows your initial two Ascendancy Points.

We strongly recommend farming for better gear in PoE 2 before challenging the Trial of the Sekhemas, as failure can be very time-consuming (and frustrating).

How to Get More Ascendancy Points in PoE 2

Once you secure your initial two points, you can acquire your following pair by advancing to Act 3 and finishing the ‘Trial of Chaos’. To enter this trial, you will require a ‘Ultimatum’, similar to Balbala’s Barya. The first Ultimatum can be obtained from Xyclucian the Chimera, a boss in the Chimeral Wetlands who drops it as loot.

The Trial of Chaos can be considered as a more difficult adaptation of the Trial of Sekhemas, albeit with significant variations:

  • There is no Honour bar.
  • There are no branching paths leading to the final boss.
  • Players are given rewards for every room they clear (claimable after the end of the trial or if they surrender).

For the initial attempt, you earn two Ascendancy Points. To accumulate additional points, you must repeat these trials when set to Cruel Difficulty, which becomes accessible once you’ve completed the first three acts of Path of Exile 2 for the first time.
