Black Ops 6 players furious as “pay to lose” skin makes it impossible to aim

As a long-time gamer with countless hours invested in Call of Duty titles, I must express my frustration over the latest debacle in Black Ops 6 – the Occult PP-919 skin that seemingly encourages players to “pay to lose.” It’s not just the money spent on such skins that irks me; it’s the fact that they make the game more challenging, rather than less.

Players of Black Ops 6 have criticized a premium weapon skin, as it significantly hinders their ability to identify opponents due to its design, which makes it nearly impossible to spot them effectively.

In Call of Duty games, it’s common nowadays to find paid cosmetic items like skins and bundles. Each new release tends to increase monetization strategies and occasionally pushes boundaries with outlandish ideas, such as the recent discovery of a ‘bong’ skin. Despite their eccentricity, these skins don’t aim to give players an edge in competitive play. However, there have been some skins that critics argue are ‘pay to win’, like the controversial Roze skin which caused frustration in Warzone due to its perceived unfair advantage.

Although the idea of purchasing a skin that enhances gameplay in some way isn’t entirely unfamiliar, it’s safe to say nobody anticipates such enhancements making gameplay more challenging. It appears this is exactly what happens with the Occult PP-919 skin, as its iron sight seems incredibly disorienting.

Don’t they ever check what they release??

According to a video posted by Reddit user ‘Ok-Agency3679’, certain animated aspects of the character’s skin obstruct the player’s view through the iron sight, making it challenging to identify enemies who are only a few meters away. In reaction to this clip, many commenters expressed their dissatisfaction, labeling the cosmetic item as a “pay-to-lose” skin.

1 User commented, “They removed quality assurance since players would still engage regardless of the game’s poor condition, showing disregard for their customers. Many consumers seem unconcerned.

In a similar vein, it’s not just this instance where a paid skin has affected gameplay experience poorly. Last week, another well-known Reddit post pointed out the Salutations BlackCell Saug blueprint for the same reason – excessive visual elements. Specifically, the skin had an animated flame above the iron sight, which made aiming challenging and unnecessary.

Time will tell whether developers tackle these problems with a future update. Currently, however, it appears that Treyarch is focusing on releasing fresh content such as the Citadelle des Morts Zombies map and adjustments to the Black Ops Cold War weapon system.
