As a seasoned gamer with a special affinity for both horror and dinosaurs, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming year! The prospect of 2025 being the year that dinosaur-centered survival horror games take center stage is nothing short of exhilarating.

Over the past few years, the horror genre has been flourishing with a plethora of outstanding titles that have kept fans on edge. These range from big-budget productions like “Alan Wake 2” and the remake of “Silent Hill 2,” to indie hits such as “Crow Country” and “Conscription.” These games have delivered both chilling and gratifying experiences, leaving horror enthusiasts with a wealth of memorable moments. As we move into 2025, the horizon is bright for the genre, with several promising horror games scheduled for release throughout that year.

2025 is shaping up to have some exciting game releases on its calendar, but what’s particularly intriguing is the collection of horror games, centered around dinosaurs, that are either already announced or soon to be released. Although not all are guaranteed for 2025, their lengthy development periods suggest they could drop as early as next year. If this turns out to be true, fans with a penchant for both dinosaurs and horror will have quite the treat in store, making it possible that 2025 will be remembered as the year when these two elements took center stage in gaming.

Dinosaur-Centric Horror Games Are Poised For a Revival

For more than two decades now, Capcom’s groundbreaking dinosaur-themed horror game, “Dino Crisis,” has remained frozen in time, with the least popular installment being released way back in 2003. Fans have been yearning for its return and Capcom has occasionally hinted at the prospect of a remake, but as of yet, this hasn’t come to fruition. In 2023, they did launch “Exoprimal,” a multiplayer game focusing on battling prehistoric creatures, but the response was split, ultimately leading to the termination of its seasonal updates.

Originally, the classic game “Dino Crisis” was set to be released on PlayStation Plus Premium in October. However, due to some concerns about it only being accessible with that specific service tier, “Dino Crisis” was later offered for general purchase on PlayStation as well.

Although games such as “Ark: Survival” offer an engaging dinosaur-themed gaming experience, there has been a noticeable scarcity of such games, especially in the horror genre. However, this situation could potentially improve next year, assuming everything goes according to plan.

Horror Games Featuring Dinosaurs Could Be a Big Trend in 2025

Since approximately 2022, there are three intriguing horror game titles under development or announced that prominently focus on survival scenarios and incorporate dinosaurs:

  • Instinction
  • FEROCIOUS
  • Jurassic Park: Survival

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my excitement for the upcoming game, Instinction, which is deeply rooted in the spirit of the iconic series, Dino Crisis. It promises to be a captivating narrative adventure where you, as a player, are sworn by blood and tasked with overcoming a shadowy organization and prehistoric creatures to restore balance to a forgotten Mesoamerican land isolated from the rest of the world. The game will immerse players in a sprawling, interconnected world filled with brain-teasing puzzles, stealth challenges, intense melee and ranged combat, and unique mechanics such as time-shifting and telekinesis.

This game, referred to as FEROCIOUS, is characterized as an intense throwback to classic first-person shooters. Stranded on a mysterious island swarming with ruthless mercenaries and terrifying prehistoric creatures, players must survive among both mankind and nature while searching for their lost brother. Intriguingly, FEROCIOUS offers players the opportunity to learn, engage in combat, or form relationships with not only prehistoric but also fantastical beasts – a feature that seems reminiscent of Ark.

The trailer for “Jurassic Park: Survival” was unveiled at the 2024 Game Awards. Taking place after the events of the original 1993 movie and officially part of the series, “Survival” will put players in the shoes of InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi for a first-person, single-player experience reminiscent of “Alien: Isolation”. As the next Jurassic World film, “Jurassic World: Rebirth”, is scheduled for 2025, it’s possible that “Survival” may also release in the same timeframe.

If all three are launched in 2025, fans of survival horror and dinosaurs will have a veritable feast ahead. Regardless if all three don’t release, it’s likely that at least one will debut next year, setting the stage for more dino-themed horror games to emerge.
