  • Isayama moves away from Attack on Titan post-series, teases new manga spin-off exploring AI technology limits.

As a dedicated gamer and ardent fan of the anime world, I’ve been following the intricate tapestry of stories that unfold within these digital realms for years. The recent announcement of Hajime Isayama and Yuki Kaji embarking on a new project titled Soyogi Fractal has sent ripples of excitement through the community, even though it’s not directly linked to Attack on Titan.

In June, the creator of “Attack on Titan”, Hajime Isayama, unveiled a fresh project that will be commencing shortly! Interestingly, this new venture seems to have no direct connection with “Attack on Titan”, but it does feature Yuki Kaji, the Japanese voice actor for Eren. The title of this upcoming work is “Soyogi Fractal”.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to be part of this unique project commemorating Yuki Kaji’s 20-year career milestone as a voice actor. This venture is particularly intriguing given its connection to Soyogi Soyogi, a remarkable voice synthesis software that incorporates his distinct vocal timbre. There are two editions available: one replicating Kaji’s speech, while the other focuses on his melodious singing voice. In an effort to safeguard his voice from unauthorized use in generative AI applications, he thoughtfully developed this official product as a legal and commercial platform for his voice utilization.

The upcoming one-shot manga, scheduled for publication in the January 9, 2025 edition of Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, is titled “Soyogi Fractal: Official Spin-Off”. This story was designed by Isayama, but Noshigami Kai has been given credit for the finished artwork.

The topic of discussion for Soyogi Fractal seems to be the boundaries of artificial intelligence, as the character, Soyogi, ponders the role and potential future of such technology in an introductory sketch by Isayama. Preliminary reports hinted at a story involving both a man and a woman, but details beyond that remain scarce. Given its status as a spin-off, it might deviate slightly from the expected course.

Isayama Moving From Attack on Titan

Although both Isayama and Kaji have been part of this project, it appears that the author is distancing himself from the world of ‘Attack on Titan’ following the conclusion of the series (and now, the end of the anime). It might be a brief hiatus or perhaps Isayama is considering embarking on a fresh phase in his life, one that takes him away from the series he dedicated so much time to creating.

Although “Attack on Titan” enthusiasts may find themselves disheartened by the author’s potential departure, they should stay tuned for future developments. It’s important to note that just because he might be shifting focus, it doesn’t preclude him from endorsing the production of spin-off tales, whether in manga or anime format. Last year, Isayama was bestowed with the Fauve Spécial at the Angoulême International Comics Festival, a prestigious event dedicated to comics that takes place annually in Angoulême, France.

Attack on Titan: Last Attack Movie

Titled “Attack on Titan: The Final Attack,” this film premiered in Japanese cinemas back in November 2024, receiving a positive response from audiences. Essentially serving as the concluding chapter for Eren’s saga, the movie combines the final two episodes of the Final Season while incorporating additional scenes. Excitingly, Crunchyroll has announced that it will soon be screened in American theaters.

Attack on Titan anime adaptation is available to stream on Crunchyroll, both subbed and dubbed.
