As a long-time anime enthusiast with a soft spot for historical settings and supernatural themes, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming second season of “My Happy Marriage”! The Cinderella-like story set during the Taisho Era, combined with its unique blend of drama, romance, and mystery, truly captured my heart.

The long-awaited release date for season two of “My Happy Marriage” has been officially announced in a fresh trailer, with episodes now scheduled for January 2025, as previously hinted.

In this fresh trailer, we get a glimpse of the introductory melody, titled “Shiawasena Yokusasoku” (A Promise of Happiness), sung by Riria. However, the outro theme, “Tsukikage Okuri” (Moonlight Sending), performed by Kashitaro Ito, is not featured in the video’s presentation.

I’m looking forward to the fact that I’ll be witnessing the debut of season two on January 6, 2025. Just like the first season, it seems we can anticipate a simultaneous release on Netflix.

A Cinderella-Like Story

In the hearts of fans, “My Happy Marriage” unfolded with its unique blend of historical backdrop, mystical elements, and a tale reminiscent of Cinderella. This captivating story takes place during the Taisho Era (1912-1926) and revolves around Miyo Saimori, who is cruelly subjected to servitude by her evil stepmother. Believing that her misery will cease upon marriage, Miyo learns that her family-arranged groom, Kiyoka Kudou, carries a chilly and cruel reputation. However, as she adjusts to living in his household, Miyo uncovers unexpected kindness in the person she thought was a monster.

The anime is adapted from a novel titled the same as its author’s name, Akumi Agitogi. Originally self-published online in Japan, it was later acquired by Kadokawa in 2019. Since then, eight volumes have been published under the Fushimi Shobo label, each featuring illustrations by Tsukiho Tsukioka. In the United States, Yen Press handles the publication of these books.

Since 2018, an animation adaptation by Rito Kohsaka has been running, with five volumes published thus far. Square Enix distributes this manga in both Japan and the United States. In March 2023, a live-action film was exclusively screened in Japanese cinemas.

Where to Watch and What’s Next

My Happy Marriage Season 2 Release Date Revealed

Last year, on July 5, the series titled “My Happy Marriage” made its debut, and it concluded its first season on September 20, 2023, with a total of 12 episodes. You can stream this series on Netflix, offering both subtitled and dubbed versions. Interestingly, the episodes became available on Netflix concurrently to their release in Japan.

A special episode premiered on Netflix last month. Despite being tagged as “episode 13”, it is actually an OVA originally released in Japan back in March, as part of a special bundle for the 8th volume of the novel. It is worth noticing that Netflix does not usually acquire rights to stream content originally meant to be only available to buyers of special bundle volumes — however, it would be too soon to know if this is only an exception or if it might mean Netflix is taking a different approach to anime.

Netflix already confirmed it will stream the new episodes.
