As a seasoned gamer who’s seen it all, from pixelated beginnings to today’s hyper-realistic worlds, I must say that these lazy characters have always been a source of amusement and frustration for me. The way they slack off while their worlds are in peril is just too relatable, especially after a long day at the office!

Throughout their lengthy career in game development, Nintendo has built up an extensive library of memorable characters, each with a distinct, recognizable personality due to their unique idiosyncrasies. Characters such as Mario and Fox are loved for their optimistic, go-getter attitude, making them delightful to control, while others have gained notoriety for being somewhat sluggish, choosing to lounge around and disregard their duties entirely.

It’s fortunate that in these games, it’s often the main characters who take on most of the work instead of the other characters, allowing them to be quite lazy and indifferent. Interestingly, sometimes it’s the antagonist or even the hero who exhibits lazy traits, like being too powerful to care, or falling asleep while on duty. Regardless, some of the laziest characters hail from Nintendo games.

8. Louie

A Clever But Ultimately Lazy And Gluttonous Member Of The Cast

In Hocatate Freight, the employee Louie appears to be indifferent towards his job and colleagues. Instead, his main interest seems to be food – he even goes so far as to consume entire shipments, which doesn’t sit well with others in the story. Despite evidence suggesting that Louie is quite intelligent, he often lets others take on the work, such as when he seems uninterested in rescuing Olimar during the fourth game.

In many games, Louie’s intense love for food frequently turns him into a character who tries to hide his actions. Instead of channeling his mental abilities constructively, Louie’s lack of effort often transforms him into a villain rather than the hero he might have been.

7. Marie

Marie Is Much More Relaxed And A Little Lazy Compared To Her Cousin

Marie, who makes up half of the Squid Sisters team in the world of Splatoon, is a carefree and relaxed character often recognized as one of the most laid-back characters within the series. When not on stage, Marie spends her time playing video games or savoring pizza slices, to the point where she expressed a desire to join Team Future for the opportunity to produce pizza slices digitally.

It’s not harmful that Marie prefers solitude, but it does suggest she typically shies away from exhilarating experiences and may even grow irritable when someone suggests she tries them. In contrast to her energetic cousin Callie, it’s clear that Marie is more inclined towards laziness.

6. King Hippo

King Hippo’s ‘Training Sessions’ Involve Eating Mountains Of Food And Napping

In the world of the “Punch-Out!! series”, Little Mac works tirelessly to move up the boxing ladder, whereas his formidable adversary, King Hippo, doesn’t seem to put in as much effort during training. A peek into a typical training session for King Hippo, as shown in the pre-match cutscene of “Punch-Out!! for Wii”, suggests that his strategy requires minimal exertion compared to Little Mac.

After gorging on massive amounts of food, Hippo will subsequently retire for rest until the sun reappears. It’s his immense size that provides him with an advantage in combat, but it’s unfair that a sluggish character like him can compete at the same level as a dedicated underdog like Mac, who works tirelessly.

5. Snorlax

Every time the endearing Snorlax appears in a Pokemon game, it’s usually found lazing on the ground, taking a peaceful nap. This characteristic habit of Snorlax has become so iconic that several games incorporate a challenge for players to try and rouse the sleeping behemoth, a task that turns out to be more difficult than one might initially assume.

In games like Pokemon Red and Blue, players must find a Poke Flute to make Snorlax move from blocking their path, and the same applies to Pokemon Let’s Go. Here, Snorlax is found lazing on a street in Verillion City. Although Snorlax can inflict substantial harm if forced into battle, when not controlled by a trainer, it either closes its eyes for a nap or munches on another fruit bowl.

4. Walrus

At the beginning stages of the adventure in Link’s Awakening, players will find themselves needing to venture into Yarna Desert. However, they’ll soon come across a sluggish walrus blocking their path. Despite Link’s best efforts to rouse him, this large and lumbering creature remains motionless, causing frustration due to his unyielding laziness.

To make this fellow shift just a bit so Link can advance, you’ll need to enlist Marin’s help by having her sing him a tune. Once she does, he’ll gradually move from his spot. This walrus might be a minor character in the game, but due to his annoying nature, he has gained quite a reputation. The reason for this is that he decided to place his head right smack in the middle of a path with no cars passing by whatsoever.

3. King Dedede

Although King Dedede often plays the role of the primary villain in the Kirby series, it’s not like he’s eager to engage in a conflict with his adversary, unless the matter involves food. Generally speaking, King Dedede prefers to delegate tasks to his Waddle Dees while he relaxes and indulges in any edibles within reach.

He may be a king, but Dedede cares little about actually ruling over his own people. Additionally, since he’s always being possessed and controlled, he ends up being a pretty miserable leader overall whose lazy tendencies actually make him pretty similar to his arch-rival, Kirby.

2. Wario

In essence, Wario embodies the opposite traits of Mario. Unlike Mario, who usually sports a cheerful disposition, Wario lacks this optimism and tends to shy away from lengthy, challenging expeditions unless there’s an attractive reward of valuable treasures involved. At the outset of “Wario Land: Shake It,” Wario is depicted napping in his vehicle, and this isn’t a rare occurrence for him; taking a snooze while working is one of Wario’s common habits.

Although Wario often strives to outdo Mario, it’s worth noting that his dedication pales in comparison to characters like Bowser. Despite his potential for devising malicious plots (as hinted by his love for garlic and nose-picking), he seems less committed when attempting to surpass Mario.

1. Kirby

Even though Kirby is famously known for his heroic roles in various series, he has a notable weakness: an affection for sleep. Whether it’s not being swallowed into another dimension or avoiding encounters with Waddle Dees, you can often find him dozing off, counting sheep as time slips away. Given his home is Dream Land, this habit isn’t entirely surprising, but Kirby’s laziness doesn’t rank high among his defining characteristics.

In many instances throughout the series, Kirby’s habitual sleepiness often puts him at a disadvantage for the anti-hero Meta Knight, as Kirby tends to oversleep during critical moments when new threats emerge. While Kirby’s sleepiness endears him to fans, it sometimes leaves him playing catch-up once he wakes up and discovers Dream Land in peril.
