In 2024, Atlus solidified its powerful standing within the gaming world. It unveiled several highly-regarded titles during this timeframe, including the critically-acclaimed remake Persona 3 Reload, the well-received re-release Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, and the Game of the Year nominee Metaphor: ReFantazio, all within a 12-month span. Additionally, Atlus published the critically-acclaimed Vanillaware game Unicorn Overlord in March to widespread praise.

2024 has been quite bustling for Atlus compared to the seemingly quiet 2025, as there are currently no official announcements regarding their release schedule for the next year. This is significantly different from the situation in December 2023, where Atlus had already unveiled most of their planned releases for 2024. Apart from launch windows, not much is known about the majority of their upcoming projects. At present, the only Atlus game that’s been announced is Persona 5: The Phantom X, a gacha RPG designed for PC and mobile devices.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Could Be Released in the West Next Year

As its title indicates, “Persona 5: The Phantom X” is a spin-off from the popular 2016 JRPG, “Persona 5.” Unlike many games in the “Persona” series, this one isn’t being developed by Atlus but by Perfect World Games. The game has been launched in open beta in certain areas, such as China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and South Korea. However, it hasn’t yet received a 1.0 launch date. Furthermore, Atlus hasn’t publicly announced plans to bring “Persona 5: The Phantom X” to the West. They have, however, disclosed that the game will be released in Japan soon.

Despite Atlus and Sega not revealing specific details about a Western release for Persona 5: The Phantom X as of now, they have plans to make it available internationally at some point. During an offline event held in Shanghai on July 12, 2024, developers from Atlus and Perfect World Games announced their intention to launch Persona 5: The Phantom X globally, with console releases to follow. Given that the Persona series is now a multiplatform franchise, it’s reasonable to anticipate that Persona 5: The Phantom X will eventually be accessible on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo platforms in the upcoming years.

Due to Atlus developers’ strong determination to share P5X with more gamers, it’s quite likely that a 2025 release in the West could happen. The fact that Sega has registered the game domain Persona5X.com hints at an upcoming global launch or, at minimum, a soon-to-be announcement about the global launch.

Fans May Finally Get Some New Information About Persona 6 in 2025

Undeniably, discussing future Atlus games wouldn’t be complete without bringing up the potential new addition to the Persona franchise, tentatively known as Persona 6. Unlike the spin-off game Persona 5: The Phantom X, P6 hasn’t been formally announced yet. However, hints about its development have been dropped in job postings and interviews with Atlus team members, suggesting that it might indeed be underway. While the buzz surrounding Persona 6 is immense among JRPG enthusiasts worldwide, official details about the game remain scarce. The available information on the project originates from rumors and leaks, some of which may not be entirely reliable.

It has been suggested by sources close to the project that Persona 6 could adopt a green color scheme, similar to how previous games in the series like Persona 3, 4, and 5 each had their unique color palettes. Additionally, it’s rumored that this upcoming game might introduce two playable protagonists, one male and one female, with themes revolving around Yin and Yang. However, it’s important to note that the accuracy of these leaked details is uncertain. What seems more likely is that Persona 6 could be released on multiple platforms, following in the footsteps of Persona 5: The Phantom X.

The first installment, titled “Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Nameless Horde“, was launched in 2006, and its follow-up, “Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon” was released in 2008.

RyanFromTheBronx stated earlier this year that potential mobile game adaptations of “Metaphor: ReFantazio” and “Shin Megami Tensei,” allegedly from Atlus, could be coming to Netflix. However, details about these supposed projects remain scarce, and their existence should be met with skepticism. If they do indeed exist, there’s a possibility they might be launched in 2025.
