The plot is reminiscent of classic action flicks, but with a fresh twist that keeps you guessing until the very end.

However, his seemingly ordinary life takes a dramatic turn when he’s coerced by a terrorist to allow a suspicious package to pass through security and board a flight. Despite the title suggesting a revival of a popular British comedy series, this storyline is more reminiscent of “Die Hard” than humor-driven shenanigans.

The film “Carry-On” focuses on a man named Ethan Kopek (played by Taron Egerton), who works as a TSA officer at LAX airport and harbors a secret ambition to become a police officer. He shares his work life with his pregnant girlfriend, Nora, who is an operations director for one of the airlines at LAX. As Christmas approaches, they prepare for a hectic shift on the eve of the holiday. Kopek manages to take over operating the x-ray machines by persuading his boss, Phil Sarkowski (Dean Norris from “Breaking Bad”), to give him more job responsibilities. However, complications arise when Kopek picks up a discarded earbud and inadvertently crosses paths with a mysterious figure known as Traveler (Jason Bateman), who coerces Kopek into sneaking a dangerous substance onto an impending flight for blackmail purposes. Unfortunately, Ethan is not aware of the nature of what he is being compelled to transport until much further into the story.
It seems the traveler is well-versed in Ethan’s background and warns to take Nora’s life if he fails to complete his task. Simultaneously, LAPD detective Elena Cole (Danielle Deadwyler) is examining the case at the Christmas tree farm, where the traveler initiated violence at the movie’s start, uncovering a device that hints at the traveler’s scheme to transport a lethal substance. As the story unfolds, Cole and Homeland Security agent John Alcott (Logan Marshall-Green) probe deeper at LAX. However, their journey takes an unexpected turn when it’s exposed that Alcott is in league with the traveler. A heated argument ensues in the vehicle, culminating in a struggle, which results in Cole fatally shooting Alcott.
How does Carry On End?
In this scenario, Ethan declines to give the case to the Traveler, prompting him to fire at Ethan. However, Ethan successfully escapes. The Traveler then contacts his associate (Theo Rossi) and commands him to eliminate Nora, as Ethan refuses to comply with the Traveler’s wishes. The associate pursues Nora through the airport while Cole locates Ethan and insists he disclose the nerve gas plan. Ethan implores her and reveals that the Traveler intends to release the nerve gas on the aircraft. Cole attempts to arrest Ethan, but he strikes her, quickly apologizing and explaining that he’s trying to save his girlfriend, Nora. Eventually, Ethan locates Nora, just as the associate is about to shoot her. In a timely manner, the man being held captive by the associate takes out the associate, saving Nora from harm.
The traveler boards the plane, and the flight attendant insists on the carry-on case being taken down to cargo, as it’s too big to go on as hand luggage. Ethan has an idea to stop the traveler from exacting his plan, and tells Nora to inform Cole that she has to let the plane take off. She manages to convince Cole to let the plane take off, while Ethan rushes to reach the plane in a transport vehicle. Ethan manages to get onto the plane just as it takes off, and searches in the cargo area for the case. He finds it and opens it up to find the nerve agent. The traveler heads down to the cargo area and pulls a gun on Ethan, and shoots at him.
A loser, a waste and asleep
In another version, Ethan secures the traveler within a compact cold storage unit filled with vacuum, then unleashes a harmful chemical substance inside, sealing the chamber shut. Regrettably, the traveler succumbs to this poisonous gas exposure, enduring an agonizing demise. Remarkably, the plane lands without incident, causing no harm to its passengers. Stepping off the aircraft, Ethan is promptly met by law enforcement, but Cole intervenes and the police retreat. To his surprise, Nora appears to welcome him warmly. A year later, Ethan and Nora, along with their newly born child, are waiting in line at LAX for a flight to Tahiti, a family vacation destination. As a passenger grumbles about the length of the security check, Ethan sympathizes with the staff’s diligence and exchanges friendly glances with his former colleagues. At the crucial moment, Ethan realizes he’d forgotten to place one essential item on the security tray: his LAPD badge.
