As a long-time fan of both Indiana Jones and Wolfenstein, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as MachineGames, the studio behind both franchises, seems to be working on multiple unannounced projects. With Indiana Jones and the Great Circle having just been released, it’s time for the team to move on to something new, and fans are clamoring for Wolfenstein 3 more than ever!
MachineGames, the Bethesda studio known for their recent release “Indiana Jones: The Grand Circle“, appears to be juggling multiple unannounced projects. “Indiana Jones: The Grand Circle ” was launched earlier in December and has received rave reviews, with many praising it as one of the standout games of 2024, despite missing the eligibility for Geoff Keighley’s 2024 Game Awards.
Before embarking on the adventure of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, I, as a fan, was well aware that MachineGames had previously made a name for themselves as the Wolfenstein studio under Bethesda, crafting the rebooted first-person shooter franchise. Over a span of five years, they created an impressive total of four Wolfenstein titles: 2014’s The New Order, followed by its sequel, The New Colossus in 2017, along with spin-offs The Old Blood and Youngblood.
On LinkedIn, Audio Director Pete Ward of MachineGames has revised his work history since the launch of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. His latest entry shows that he’s been involved in the production of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and is currently engaged in secret projects. This hints strongly that MachineGames could be working on more than one game after the release of Indiana Jones. The details about these upcoming games are as yet unknown.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Studio May Be Working On More Than One Game
There’s a strong chance that one of these unannounced projects might be “Wolfenstein 3”. It’s been six years since the last installment in the series, “Wolfenstein: Youngblood”, and eight years since “Wolfenstein II” in 2017. There’s also a possibility that these projects could be both a mainline and spinoff “Wolfenstein” games, with the spinoff being released a year or two after “Wolfenstein 3”, similar to the pattern of the previous entries. Another option is that one of these games could be a new IP, but it’s unlikely that MachineGames would immediately start work on another independent game unless it’s a small standalone spin-off title.
It’s possible that some of these projects have been under development concurrently with “The Great Circle,” but it could take another year or two before we know more about them. In the interim, MachineGames is aiming to launch “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” on PlayStation 5 sometime in early 2025, although a specific release date has not been announced yet.
