As a long-time fan and follower of Naughty Dog’s masterpieces like The Last of Us and Uncharted, I must say that the reveal of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has left me utterly thrilled and intrigued. It’s not every day that we get to witness such a significant departure from what a studio is known for yet still retains familiar elements that fans love.
At The Game Awards 2024, renowned PlayStation studio Naughty Dog unveiled a sneak peek at “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet”, an upcoming sci-fi action game exclusively for the PS5. Led by creative director Neil Druckmann, “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet” marks the first original concept from the creators behind “The Last of Us” and “Uncharted” in over a decade. The game focuses on a veteran bounty hunter named Jordan A. Mun, who finds himself stranded on an alien planet after a job goes wrong and must figure out how to get back home. Set in a parallel universe millennia into the future, the game is heavily influenced by 1980s sci-fi films, such as “Akira”.
Despite Naughty Dog not sharing many details about the gameplay in “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet“, its trailer hints that melee combat will play a significant role. This is different from many of their past projects, which are primarily third-person shooters, making it an exciting shift in direction. Interestingly, Neil Druckmann has mentioned that “Intergalactic” will have a structure more akin to a TV series, unlike any other Naughty Dog title. Although it’s quite different from the usual work we associate with Naughty Dog, it does share some intriguing similarities with “The Last of Us“.
In 2022, Neil Druckmann shared that the structure of the game “Intergalactic” would resemble a television series, a revelation made two years prior to the official announcement of the game.
Some of the Voice Actors in Intergalactic Are Involved With The Last of Us
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Has a Star-Studded Cast
Similar to numerous popular triple-A games today, “Intergalactic” boasts a high-profile ensemble cast. For instance, Tony Dalton, famously recognized for his portrayal of Lalo Salamanca in the series “Better Call Saul,” is featured in Naughty Dog’s upcoming title and makes a brief appearance in the game’s reveal trailer. Similarly, Kumail Nanjiani, a well-known stand-up comedian, seems to be part of a criminal organization within “Intergalactic.” Additionally, Troy Baker, the voice actor behind Joel from “The Last of Us,” is also involved in an as-yet-unspecified role in Naughty Dog’s upcoming project. The most intriguing casting detail for “Intergalactic” concerns its main character, Jordan A. Mun.
Intergalactic’s Protagonist is Going to Play a Character in The Last of Us Season 2
In the sci-fi series “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,” the character Jordan will be portrayed by Tati Gabrielle, a well-known American actress recognized for her work in TV shows such as “The 100,” “You,” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” Although Gabrielle usually avoids voice acting roles in video games, she has worked with Naughty Dog on several projects. She starred as Jo Braddock in the 2022 “Uncharted” film, and will also appear as Nora Harris in the upcoming second season of “The Last of Us” on HBO.
As a fan who hasn’t met her yet, let me introduce you to Nora Harris, a character debuted in The Last of Us Part 2. She belongs to one of the primary opposing groups in the game, the Washington Liberation Front. While she may appear as an adversary within the context of Ellie’s journey in the game, she maintains a close friendship with Abby Anderson – another playable character. The television adaptation’s portrayal of Nora Harris remains to be seen, but given the series’ commitment to adhering closely to the original game’s storyline, we can expect her character to bear similarities.
One of the Characters in Intergalactic is Portrayed by a Co-Writer for The Last of Us Part 2
It’s worth noting that Halley Gross, the actress who played the character wearing an eyepatch in the trailer for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, could have a significant part in the series. Halley Gross is not only an actress but also a screenwriter, having worked on shows such as Banshee, Westworld, and The Last of Us (HBO). Interestingly, she was also a co-writer for The Last of Us Part 2 at Naughty Dog. Previously, she has appeared in minor roles on Law & Order and The Last of Us Part 2. It’s quite intriguing that both Halley Gross and Gabrielle are set to have leading roles in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet while also being connected to The Last of Us, a fact that fans of Naughty Dog might find interesting.
