As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say that the sports games available for PlayStation VR2 have truly outdone themselves. Amongst all these virtual marvels, there are some standouts that take the cake and make me feel like I’ve stepped into an entirely new world.
Exploring the collection of PS VR2 games might seem overwhelming due to the large number of unfamiliar titles. Many VR games haven’t yet become common topics, as virtual reality is still finding its place in today’s gaming scene and PlayStation is working hard to distribute VR headsets to more people.
Through experimentation and occasional mistakes, it’s possible to discover some truly exceptional virtual reality (VR) experiences that can compare favorably with the well-known titles you might have encountered before.
For sports enthusiasts, the concept remains consistent. The PS VR2 boasts impressive sporting selections developed by major studios, as well as underrated titles that prove to be quite engaging and worthy of exploration.
Here’s an option that might fit your criteria:
10. C-Smash VRS New Dimension
A Classic Racket-Sport In Space
In the realm of gaming, I’ve recently stumbled upon an intriguing spin-off titled “C-Smash VRS New Dimension.” This game is a revamped version of the arcade-turned-Dreamcast classic, Cosmic Smash, from the dawn of the new millennium. It’s a unique blend of brick breaker games and various racket sports that I find quite captivating.
Unlike many other VR games, C-Smash requires a more expansive area in your home to match its grand design, making it necessary to rearrange some furniture. However, the thrill of this action-packed game justifies such adjustments.
It’s convenient for individuals who infrequently coordinate their real-life schedules with their tennis, squash, or racquetball companions, as it offers an alternative way to play.
9. Cleansheet Football
Goalie Training For Aspiring Footballers
If you’ve ever been curious about experiencing a continual barrage of soccer balls, then Cleansheet might just be the right fit for you.
On the field, taking up position between the posts, your main task is to prevent the opposing team from scoring. Despite its apparent simplicity, this role requires skill and expertise, which is why top-tier goalkeepers excel at their craft.
This game primarily serves as a soccer training simulation where you hone your defensive skills by blocking corner kicks, free kicks, and even attempting to set a high score in an arcade-like mode. However, there’s a unique thrill in deflecting a powerful header away from your goal, watching it fly past you as if it were a bullet, all without physically diving.
8. WHAT THE BAT?
Edward Baseball Bat-hands
“The title ‘What The Bat?’ poses a question that many of us have wondered about but never dared to ask: What would life be like if one were born with baseball bats as hands?
The scenario is quite absurd, beginning with the character struggling to manipulate their wooden limbs while attempting to shift building blocks and consume baby food.
Instead of being purely a sports game, WHAT THE BAT? leans more towards comedy and puzzle elements. Eventually, you’ll find yourself on the field, where you manipulate objects using your hand-bats to achieve amusing objectives.
Each puzzle is short, but encourages some critical thinking and fun experimentation. It’s a great pseudo-followup to the previous game in this franchise, WHAT THE GOLF?. I suppose you could say this one is a real homerun.
7. Kayak VR: Mirage
The Calm Of The Open Water
Game Kayak VR: Mirage – A Thrilling Experience for Both Leisure and Hardcore Sports Enthusiasts
However, the game truly excels in its open-world mode. In this setting, players have the freedom to kayak through locations like Costa Rica, Norway, Antarctica, Australia, or Italy (DLC), all at different times during the day and under various weather conditions.
Experience the serenity of navigating the water at your leisure, appreciating the stunning vistas and immersive audio environment that Kayak VR: Mirage offers, making it a strong candidate for the roster of most tranquil video games available today.
6. Creed: Rise to Glory – Championship Edition
Boxing Day Every Day
Titled “Ivan Drago’s Vengeance” or “Creed: Ascent to Supremacy – Tournament Version”, this game offers you the opportunity to combine characters from both the Creed and Rocky movie series, pitting them against each other in epic battles to determine the ultimate champion.
In virtual reality (VR), the boxing controls flow smoothly and naturally, providing an unparalleled experience when you’re virtually confronted by a punch from Clubber Lang, as if you were really there.
In addition to its strong narrative, Creed offers a training mode where you learn under Rocky Balboa and work your way up the ranks. The haptic feedback in PS VR2 is also impressive, such as the headset vibrating forcefully when you receive a particularly powerful punch.
5. Racket Fury: Table Tennis VR
Robo Ping-Pong Paradise
If you’re the type who cherishes memories of playing table tennis in Wii Sports: Resort, prepare to embark on the next chapter of your virtual ping-pong adventure with Racket Fury: Table Tennis VR!
Offering a gradually increasing difficulty single-player campaign or the option to showcase your skills in multiplayer matches, Racket Fury seems incredibly life-like as if you’re competing against a mechanical companion.
In a comfortable and intuitive grip, you can effortlessly impart spin on your strokes, the movements are swift and precise, and the precision in following the ball is consistently accurate.
Even though it’s a game where you play against artificial opponents, Racket Fury offers an incredibly realistic, tactile feel and serves as a fun virtual reality exercise experience as well.
4. VR Skater
Eric Koston Simulator
In anticipation of early access to EA’s Skate in 2025, a VR game titled “VR Skater” from Deficit Games could satisfy that same craving. This VR title aims to deliver an authentic virtual skating experience, consistently nailing the tricks.
Getting accustomed to a VR skateboarding game, with your handheld controllers serving as your method of movement, initially feels peculiar. However, by the end of the tutorial, it surprisingly starts feeling quite normal.
Exploring the virtual world through VR Skater is incredibly enjoyable, and it offers an array of open-roaming spaces. Additionally, it comes equipped with various levels that can be unlocked, each presenting unique objectives and tasks designed to test your abilities as a skater.
3. Nock
Archery Meets Rocket League
It feels lazy to call Nock the VR equivalent of Rocket League with a bow and arrow instead of a vehicle, but that’s really it.
Nevertheless, it’s important to clarify that this critique doesn’t reflect negatively on Nock. On the contrary, the blend of soccer and competitive archery, akin to an enchanting experience within the PS VR2, makes it one of the standout titles for the system.
Gliding across the frozen playground at Nock is an authentic adrenaline rush, while mastering the agility and precision of the bow and arrow you use feels like a remarkable achievement in the realm of virtual gaming.
Alongside its thrilling, hard-to-resist gameplay reminiscent of soccer, Nock additionally features a pulsating soundtrack and delightfully jiggly-armed characters that encourage you to move in rhythm with the music during competition.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but express my enthusiasm for this game titled “Nock.” It’s an immersive VR experience that, in my opinion, should boast a thriving online player community – unfortunately, that isn’t the case yet on PS VR2. Despite this setback, Nock remains incredibly enjoyable when played offline against AI opponents. In fact, I firmly believe that everyone who owns a VR device ought to give it a try. It’s a unique and entertaining experience that showcases the potential of virtual reality gaming.
2. Gran Turismo 7
A Flagship In VR And Out
In Gran Turismo 7, the classic gameplay style continues strong, where you start by acquiring a vehicle, triumphing in a race, earning some cash, advancing your license, and then repeating this progression as you climb up from a Honda Fit Hybrid to the iconic McLaren Formula One car driven by Ayrton Senna.
As a gamer, I can confidently say that what really propels the seventh installment of this series to new heights is its virtually seamless virtual reality integration.
Experiencing the adrenaline of driving a supercar at 200 MPH in virtual reality feels incredibly real. The immersion is intense as your windshield wipers battle heavy rain, and your competitors seem to vanish from your rearview mirror.
Experiencing a great steering wheel/pedal set-up significantly enhances the enjoyment of Gran Turismo 7, however, even using the standard DualSense controller, it remains an indispensable game for sports and racing enthusiasts in VR.
1. Walkabout Mini Golf
Putt-Putt: Infinite
Leading the pack of excellent sports games for PSVR2 is the captivating title, Walkabout Mini Golf. This game appears to be brimming with an abundance of content, offering a total of 288 holes for players to enjoy.
This becomes a staggering 1,080 holes if you purchase all the (wonderful and worth it) DLC courses.
The assortment of courses in this game is simply astounding, covering an array of themes such as traditional mini-golf designs reminiscent of old favorites, interstellar landscapes, submerged ruins of Atlantis, a voyage to the heart of the Earth, and even Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. The tactile feedback on the controllers gives you an authentic sense of swinging a golf club, while the size of each hole is perfectly proportioned.
Setting foot on a fresh path at Walkabout Mini Golf seems akin to traveling to another place. Engage in a single-player challenge to beat your personal best, or invite friends for an online round of friendly competition instead.
Walkabout Mini Golf stands out as more than just the top sports game for PS VR2; it’s a game that could one day bring us all together, even in nursing homes.
