  • Goku sometimes has to share the spotlight for victories with his allies in group battles.
  • Various characters join forces in epic team battles to save the world in the Dragon Ball series.
  • Collaborative battles showcase character development and unexpected alliances against powerful foes.

As a longtime fan of the Dragon Ball franchise, I must say that the group fights in this series have always been some of my favorites. They showcase the unique abilities and camaraderie between characters, making for exciting and unforgettable moments.

In the popular anime series, Dragon Ball, Goku stands out as one of the most powerful characters, often swooping in at critical moments to rescue the day when all seems lost. This iconic character has undergone numerous transformations since the initial anime, starting as a strong-willed child and eventually gaining divine powers. Time and again, he saves the world from impending doom. However, while Goku often receives the praise for these victories, it’s important to note that the protagonist sometimes shares this credit for saving everyone.

Over the course of multiple Dragon Ball series, Goku forged numerous friendships, commencing with Bulma and subsequently Krillin, Yamcha, and many more. Moreover, Goku’s power and charm even turned foes into allies, gradually forming what is known as the Dragon Team. Each character possesses unique strengths, but there have been instances where they combined forces to save the day, allowing other characters to shine. These range from strategic partnerships to heartfelt friendships, with some spectacular group battles in the anime franchise that are particularly memorable compared to the many epic battles.

8. Krillin, Gohan, And Vegeta VS. Recoome

A Hopeless Battle Brings On Hopeful Alliance

  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Episodes: 64-66

Krillin frequently faces defeat in the series, primarily because he often goes up against opponents who are too strong for him, given that he’s usually fighting alongside Goku. However, one of Krillin’s most impressive battles is undoubtedly when he teams up with Gohan and Vegeta to fight Recoome. This battle has some notable moments.

Though it’s accurate to say that these characters are essentially stalling for Goku, the fight remains immensely engaging, demonstrating their united front against insurmountable adversity. Since Recoome belongs to the group of secondary villains in this storyline, the battle may not have been as memorable compared to other encounters, but it’s still a delightful spectacle to witness.

7. Goku and Trunks VS. Zamasu & Black Goku

An Unforgettable Yet Quick Two Vs Two Battle

  • Dragon Ball Super
  • Episodes: 56-57

Following Goku Black’s victory over Vegeta, Goku steps into the fray, but he doesn’t last long against Black and Zamasu. It’s at this point where Trunks enters the battle, teaming up with Goku, delivering an epic two-on-two fight that showcased the power of both Zamasu and Goku Black to the audience.

Despite concluding swiftly and leaving Goku and Trunks barely clinging to life, this intense battle between the franchise’s standout characters remains an unforgettable team skirmish. Among the select memorable two-versus-two fights within the series, it stands out as a true highlight, even though its brevity made it seem less impactful compared to larger and more prolonged group conflicts.

6. Krillin, Gohan, Piccolo, And Vegeta VS. Frieza

The Underdogs Unite In A Hopeless Situation

  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Episodes: 79-86

In the series, Frieza stands out among the villains for his formidable combat skills, leading to extended conflicts that often see allies joining forces. Prior to Goku’s arrival, the Dragon Team is preoccupied with mere survival, as overcoming Frieza seems almost unattainable without their main protagonist.

In the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, Krillin and Gohan step up, inflicting minor harm on the foe and crucially buying time for Piccolo and Goku to join the fight. Although Vegeta and Piccolo contribute at times, it is Krillin and Gohan who truly shine in this situation, despite their disadvantage. The battle, filled with suspense and significant risk, offers its share of exciting moments, but ultimately feels fruitless as Goku must intervene yet again to secure victory.

5. Piccolo & Goku VS. Raditz

A Pivotal Alliance With A Shocking End

  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Episodes: 3-5

When Raditz, Goku’s older brother, shows up on Earth and discloses secrets about Goku’s past and the potential hazard of Saiyans, the main character is left with no other option but to seek an alliance from a former foe. The combined strength of these two powerful characters gave rise to a formidable team-up, showcasing Gohan’s immense yet volatile power.

Initially, Piccolo was seen as an adversary, but this marked his initial transition into becoming a Z-fighter and teaming up with Goku in their mission to protect the world. The climax was unexpected, as Goku made the ultimate sacrifice and Piccolo eliminated both Saiyans. Additionally, this battle concluded on a heroic note, while providing moments that would be etched into memory, even though it was just a pairing of two allies.

4. Goku, Vegeta, Mr. Satan, And Good Buu VS. Kid Buu

An Unexpected Group Joins Forces To Save The World

  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Episodes: 281-286

Goku, Mr. Satan, Majin Buu (Good Buu), and Vegeta might seem like an unusual team, but they effectively collaborate to vanquish Kid Buu, even if they don’t fight simultaneously. This diverse group not only provides an engaging mix of characters, but the battle also incorporates humor, heart-wrenching emotions, and grandeur, as the entire world unites to eradicate this malevolent force.

In this intense battle, though Mr. Satan may not inflict heavy physical harm, his bond with Good Buu deepens and his actions prove crucial. However, it’s Vegeta’s involvement that truly elevates the fight to greatness. Recognizing Goku’s supremacy and sacrificing himself to buy time for Goku to execute the Genki Dama, ensures Vegeta earns the redemption and acknowledgment he desires in an epic confrontation. The fight often feels like several individual skirmishes as each character gets their turn against the antagonist, with Goku readying for the final assault in the periphery.

3. Z Warriors VS. Nappa

An Entertaining Yet Long Fight Featuring A Big Discrepancy In Power

  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Episodes: 24-28

Looking back, Nappa appears as one of the least powerful Saiyans in the series, but when he made his debut, he seemed like an opponent who couldn’t be defeated. As Gohan, Piccolo, Chiaotzu, and Tien teamed up to take him down, Nappa was able to overpower them all with ease, even though they combined their strengths.

Examining the significant difference in strength among the Z Warriors, the battle was far from boring as it featured an assortment of unique and varied attacks, making it a lively, if lengthy, conflict that ultimately resulted in a partial loss for them.

2. Goku, Yajirobe, And Krillin VS. Great Ape Vegeta

An Unexpected Intervention That Saves The Day

  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Episodes: 31-34

On rare occasions, the Z Warriors step in during a battle to aid Goku against a tough opponent. An instance of this happens when Vegeta transforms into his mighty Great Ape form, taking charge of the battle and dominating Goku.

In a display of unwavering friendship, Krillin, though not as powerful as Goku, steps up to save his best friend. This fight is less about technique and more about raw emotion. What’s more, the climax sees Yajirobe intervene unexpectedly, severing Vegeta’s tail in a surprising twist that ultimately saves the day. However, instead of a unified force fighting together consistently, this conflict was made up of individual, spontaneous actions.

1. Goku, Android 17, And Frieza VS. Jiren

An Epic And Unexpected Alliance Necessary To Finish Off A Strong Opponent

  • Dragon Ball Super
  • Episodes: 130-131

Among all the adversaries Goku has encountered, Jiren stands out as one of the toughest opponents. Even with the Ultra Instinct transformation, Goku finds himself struggling against this formidable foe and requires aid to secure the victory. In a surprising turn of events, help comes from an unexpected source when the entire universe’s fate is at stake.

In his own self-serving manner or otherwise, Frieza decides to engage in the battle, teaming up with Jiren, Goku, and Android 17 – an adversary from a past series. Typically at odds with each other, these three put together strategic moves that make for an exciting fight, even though it’s brief. The adrenaline is intense, unlike any other. This skirmish sets the stage for future team-ups in Dragon Ball, showcasing individual abilities as well as cooperative efforts that blended seamlessly into a win that required the collective power of Goku, Frieza, and Android 17.
