As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for adventure and puzzle-solving, I found myself utterly captivated by the gaming landscape of 2024. The Xbox console, in particular, proved to be a treasure trove of hidden gems and blockbuster titles alike.
The approach Microsoft takes with exclusive Xbox games might be approaching a significant shift, potentially signaling the wane of the era dominated by blockbuster Xbox exclusives.
2024 wasn’t the most exceptional year for the Xbox brand overall, but it had some fantastic exclusive games that made owning an Xbox truly rewarding. Even though we haven’t reached our destination yet, we can still celebrate these games. On the surface, it might seem like a quiet year for Xbox, but there was still a wealth of top-notch exclusives to enjoy. And with Xbox Game Pass, you can play these games on their release day!
Our list will cover console exclusives, as every Xbox game is available on PC.
6. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Finally landing safely
Despite experiencing some initial bumps during its takeoff, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has shown remarkable improvement after receiving post-launch upgrades.
As a dedicated enthusiast, I’ve always been blown away by the stunning visuals the Flight Simulator franchise consistently delivers. This year’s iteration is no different; it’s downright breathtaking and undeniably one of the most visually striking games gracing the Xbox Series X|S yet.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, what truly blows me away is the sheer volume of content this game offers. Whether it’s diving into the main storyline or testing my skills in the Challenge League, or even just cruising over my virtual house, there’s no end to the sights and activities here. It’s a gaming paradise!
The Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 might not surpass the impact of its 2020 version, yet it remains an amazing feat and a valuable asset to the Xbox game collection.
5. Age of Mythology Retold
The gods must be crazy
Translating an established real-time strategy game series from PC to consoles can be quite a task, particularly when it comes to beloved franchises like Age of Mythology. However, Age of Mythology: Retold skillfully reimagines the 2022 RTS experience with updated graphics.
20 years later, the game’s campaign still provides the same level of enjoyment, and any quality-of-life updates are certainly appreciated. Wielding divine powers in the game continues to be just as entertaining, giving it a distinct edge over the more realistic games like Age of Empires.
As a gaming enthusiast, I must admit that the strategy genre has taken a backseat compared to its glory days, but titles like “Age of Mythology: Retold” remind us why it was once so beloved. These games are proof positive that they’re still worth investing our time and focus in.
The updated version pays tribute to the peak of the “Age” series, offering a delightful experience that appeals to both long-time fans and those just joining the franchise.
4. Senua’s Saga: Hellbade 2
A work of art
While it might not achieve the same lofty peaks as its forerunner, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II remains a true work of artistry.
We recently talked about Flight Simulator 2024 being one of the most visually stunning games for Xbox; however, Hellblade II might even surpass that. This game is a masterpiece that offers an immersive cinematic experience that isn’t typical in video games. Although its gameplay is relatively short, it’s an adventure definitely worth experiencing. And the cherry on top? It’s available on Game Pass!
In the continuation of its earlier story, Senua’s Saga delivers a chilling, ominous journey that is distressing yet fulfilling. Notably, this game steers clear from conventional horror clichés when it comes to jump scares, instead opting for mind-bending tactics that capitalize on our apprehensions and phobias. If you’ve got the courage to give it a try, it’s an experience definitely worth investing in.
Do it; you won’t regret it.
3. Dungeons of Hinterberg
The best game you didn’t play this year
Over the past few years, the Xbox platform has seen numerous dungeon crawlers, but none have quite matched up to the excellence of Dungeons of Hinterberg. This game manages to strike a perfect balance between the charm of a casual title and the depth of a more conventional game.
In the breathtaking Austrian Alps, I find myself immersed in a captivating world brimming with memorable characters and intricately designed dungeons. The atmosphere is enchanting, making every moment spent here a delight. The puzzles are engaging, offering just the right blend of challenge and intuition that keeps me hooked. It’s no wonder I can’t resist getting fully engrossed in this mesmerizing gameplay experience.
What’s great about it is that there’s a lot more content accessible beyond dungeon exploration. The interactions with town residents are similar to those in Stardew Valley, and the game provides ample opportunities for enjoyment outside its dungeons.
It’s possible that you hadn’t considered playing “Dungeons of Hinterberg” at the beginning of the year, but I strongly recommend giving it a try now.
2. STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl
Radioactive
Despite a bumpy start at its launch, STALKER 2 boasts features that have cultivated a dedicated following of fans.
As developer GSC World works diligently to iron out any remaining issues, an extraordinary milestone in the gaming world has been reached. The game’s survival sandbox stands among the finest in the industry, complemented by a gripping narrative and visionary concepts that largely coalesce effectively.
Not many first-person shooter games can match the intensity of STALKER 2, a game that promises to become even more immersive as it receives additional updates after its release.
In this game, the desolate landscape after the apocalypse stands out uniquely among others in the gaming world. Some might even say its charm is heightened by the persistent bugs and rough edges that haven’t been fully ironed out yet.
1. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Belongs in a museum
It turns out that the best way to pay homage to Indiana Jones’s legacy is to make a video game, not sequels decades after the original trilogy.
The game “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” demonstrates that MachineGames is among the top-tier developers in the gaming industry right now, skillfully recreating the enchantment of the “Indiana Jones” films through exceptional gameplay.
This game is an impressive display of storytelling depth and entertaining side missions. It’s understandable that some might draw parallels to Uncharted, but remember, the Uncharted series was itself inspired by Indiana Jones.
The Xbox series now boasts a headlining franchise with the release of “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle“. This game is among the top-tier titles this year, making it an essential play for every Xbox user.
