In the initial film of the refreshed DC Universe, titled “Superman,” David Corenswet portrays both Clark Kent/Kal El, as well as a number of other superheroes such as Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl/Kendra Saunders, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardener/Green Lantern, and Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific/Micheal Holt. Previously, concerns that “Superman” would be a team-up instead of focusing on Superman were alleviated by director James Gunn, who clarified that these characters are included to narrate Superman’s story rather than for setting up future projects. The teaser trailer for “Superman,” which was launched on December 19, has already surpassed all other trailers in viewership for DC and Warner Bros.

Mister Terrific Would Be the Main Supporting Character in Superman

Each character gets a chance to shine brightly. They each have significant moments. These aren’t mere appearances, these are the characters we’re talking about.

He also revealed that Mister Terrific would be at the core of the supporting cast:

To be completely honest, I’ve always had a strong preference for him, and that’s Mr. Terrific you’re referring to. He plays a significant role in the storyline, being the central figure among the characters.

In essence, interpreting Gunn’s statement literally suggests that Michael Holt/Mister Terrific might play a more significant part in the story than Lex Luthor, who is traditionally Superman’s main antagonist. In the upcoming ‘Superman’, Edi Gathegi portrays Mister Terrific as the leader of a metahuman peacekeeping unit, making him a formidable adversary for Superman due to his exceptional combat skills. Interestingly, Mister Terrific doesn’t possess any superpowers but is an exceptionally intelligent individual, much like Batman (being recognized as the third smartest person in the world within the Justice Society of America, with only Batman and Lex Luthor being smarter). This intellect allows him to predict enemy moves, understand ancient languages, and control his T-Spheres – metallic orbs used for defense, offense, and reconnaissance. A scene from the ‘Superman’ trailer depicts these spheres creating a protective force field to safeguard him from incoming attacks. Additionally, Holt wears his signature black T-shaped mask over his face to help detect energy signatures.

In contrast to what some fans may believe, Mister Terrific didn’t make his first live-action debut as Superman. Instead, he was introduced in the CW series Arrow, portrayed by Echo Kellum, where he went by Curtis Holt. Although he wore the signature suit and mask, his character was significantly different from the original version.
