As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the upcoming lineup of video games for 2025 is truly something to behold. From the highly anticipated Call of Duty 2025 to the return of Donkey Kong Country, there’s something for everyone in this list.
Following an extraordinary 2024, it’s now time to cast our gaze forward to the most anticipated video games set for release in 2025 across all leading platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The exciting news is that a plethora of promising titles are poised to potentially drain our wallets.
2024 may not have scaled the towering peaks reached by the explosive year that was 2023, but let me tell you, it still had its fair share of gaming glory! Role-playing games took center stage with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Metaphor: ReFantazio, while Astro Bot breathed fresh life into the 3D platformer genre. And who could forget Balatro, the little indie game that deservedly earned Game of the Year accolades!
2024 has been a year filled with delight, but now it’s time to gaze toward the future as we approach 2025. The anticipated releases for next year are expected to be truly groundbreaking, causing my budget some concern. Assuming there are no setbacks, here is our predicted lineup of the top nine new games scheduled for release in 2025 on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
9 Best New Games Releasing in 2025
2025 might bring some unexpected surprises from the gaming industry, as our current list of top anticipated titles suggests. However, don’t be caught off guard by surprise releases or stunning announcements at events like Summer Game Fest, Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, and other major gaming events.
Grand Theft Auto 6
To put it straight, if Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out in 2025, it’s essentially game over for other games launching around that time. For roughly a month (and possibly longer), any new release will have to compete with the massive number of players who are immersed in GTA 6. It’s likely that it has already secured Game of the Year, and given its potential scale, it’s undeniably one of the largest video games ever.
Rockstar’s past work is hard to beat, and even though we’ve only caught a glimpse of Grand Theft Auto 6, what we’ve seen so far promises this may be the most captivating GTA game yet. Here’s hoping that GTA 6 will be released in 2025, making it a standout year for gaming if it does!
Release Date: Rumored for 2025.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
In simpler terms, the trailers for Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake hint that Konami is accurately recreating the original story while enhancing gameplay features. The graphics, as usual with Konami, are realistic and impressive. Seeing a new generation enjoy the excitement of where the series starts chronologically makes me smile widely.
Among my two all-time favorite video game series, Metal Gear Solid holds a special place. And let me assure you, I’m not exaggerating when I say that Metal Gear Solid 3 is the cream of the crop for me. The fact that it’s receiving a complete, next-generation remake makes my heart feel as warm as if I were savoring a fire-grilled Kenyan Mangrove Crab. It’s great to have Big Boss back again.
Release Date: Rumored for 2025.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
As I step into Lumiose City within Pokémon Legends: Z-A, nestled in the heart of the Kalos region, the unknown of this upcoming adventure lingers. It seems like another solitary journey confined to a single location, and the debut trailer hints at a bustling game world compared to the tranquil landscapes I’ve explored before in Arceus.
As a devoted fan, I must say that Pokémon Legends Arceus took the beloved franchise in an exciting and fresh direction. Instead of the usual cityscapes, gyms, and bustling environments we’re accustomed to, this game offers a vast open world. What truly sets it apart is the unexpected behavior of wild Mon attacking you! The catching mechanics have been adapted for greater flexibility, the boss battles are reminiscent of Raids, and the narrative is distinctively unique. Pokémon Legends Arceus represents a daring and stunning new chapter for the franchise.
Release Date: Rumored for 2025.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows
2024 wasn’t a prosperous year for Ubisoft, and their stock could be at its lowest point yet. The challenging development process of Skull & Bones, which cost hundreds of millions of dollars, didn’t succeed as expected, Star Wars Outlaws fell short of expectations, and XDefiant—Ubisoft’s anticipated Call of Duty competitor—is already being discontinued in 2025. Numerous other Ubisoft games have been shelved, the company is undergoing significant layoffs, and the general public’s impression of the once-revered studio isn’t positive.
There’s no need to worry about Assassin’s Creed Shadows; it seems Ubisoft’s traditional open-world formula, which has become a bit repetitive with many players, is causing some concerns ahead of the new AC game. Fans are yearning for more engaging stories, fewer collect-a-thons, and innovative gameplay. However, Assassin’s Creed Shadows appears to address these issues, as its 16th-century Japanese setting promises an intriguing experience, and early gameplay footage suggests you can once again embody the role of a skilled assassin. This game could be a significant victory for Ubisoft, potentially rekindling their relationship with fans if Assassin’s Creed Shadows strikes a chord on its release day.
Release Date: Feb. 14, 2025.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
For a span, Metroid Prime 4 wasn’t known as “Beyond,” lacked a clear identity, and left fans uncertain if it would ever be released. Announced at E3 2017, Metroid Prime 4 endured development challenges after its progress was reset. However, the June 18, 2024 Nintendo Direct unveiled the first-ever gameplay footage of this long-awaited title.
After two exhilarating minutes of Morph Ball chaos, encountering those devious Space Pirates, and witnessing Samus in action, I can’t imagine a world where Metroid Prime 4: Beyond doesn’t make the Game of the Year list – and I’m not alone in this thought. Regardless if it doesn’t win the title, we’re all eagerly anticipating what’s to come – and that’s beyond exciting!
Release Date: Rumored for 2025.
Judas
Hey there, Ken Levine! It feels like you’ve been missing from my gaming journey for the past 11 years. But let me tell you, the Bioshock trilogy has been nothing short of a constant companion, standing out as one seamless trio in the realm of first-person shooters. And now, Judas seems to be the worthy heir to your remarkable trifecta.
In the world you’re about to explore, your left hand holds the key to magical abilities and enchantments with elements, while your right hand is primarily employed to wield weapons. This tale weaves together intricately, branching off in numerous directions, giving you the power to shape your own conclusion. The adversaries you’ll face are a unique blend of adorable, terrifying, and downright horrifying. Judas’ environments promise to challenge even Levine’s renowned past creations.
Release Date: Rumored for March 2025.
Call of Duty 2025
In advance, it’s quite typical for Call of Duty titles to be revealed early. The 2025 installment from Activision’s multi-billion dollar shooter franchise is rumored to be a sequel to the semi-futuristic Black Ops 2, tentatively named “Saturn.” This upcoming Call of Duty 2025 will take place far into the future. Whether you’ll continue to fight on the ground (I hope so) or not is yet unknown, but what we can expect is a collection of remade Black Ops maps.
Black Ops campaigns are always exciting, so it’s going to be thrilling to discover where the series heads in the future. The Call of Duty game set for 2025 won’t have any links to Black Ops 6, and we anticipate more rumors popping up unexpectedly, just like a remote-controlled RC-XD launched from a ramp. Keep an eye out for updates throughout 2025.
Release Date: Rumored for October / November 2025.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
It’s been some time since we last got a fresh Donkey Kong game, but Donkey Kong Country Returns HD can fill that void nicely. Similarly, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in 2018 was essentially an updated version of the original 2014 release, and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is like a facelift for the 2010 game, originally launched on the Nintendo Wii.
You’re familiar with Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, and while you may have played it previously, there’s a good chance you’ll want to venture back into the jungle once more – it would be crazy not to! So, let’s put off any delays and get going.
Release Date: Jan. 16, 2025.
Monster Hunter Wilds
2018’s Monster Hunter: World significantly boosted the profile of the long-running series, propelling it to A-list status: It has finally achieved global fame and recognition. Comparatively, the series can now be likened to a slumbering giant that has been awakened. The buzz surrounding Monster Hunter: Wilds, generated by appearances in PlayStation Showcases and similar events, demonstrates that Capcom’s monster-slaying franchise is growing at an extraordinary (intended play on words) pace.
Monster Hunter: Wilds emphasizes a more authentic and realistic gaming experience, appealing to both long-time fans and newcomers alike. It boasts an array of fresh monsters, some to be hunted and others to be rescued. The initial open beta drew in over half a million players on Steam, hinting at Capcom’s eagerness to make Wilds an extraordinary adventure.
