As a veteran gamer and avid fan of Cartoon Network shows, I must say this recent turn of events has left me feeling rather disheartened. The delisting of these beloved games feels like a punch to the gut for many of us who grew up with these characters and cherished the experiences they provided.
Approximately six video games produced under Warner Bros. Discovery’s Cartoon Network Games and Adult Swim Games brands have been digitally de-listed from platforms such as Steam and the Nintendo eShop in recent times. The removal notices for these Cartoon Network games provide little explanation from the publisher. Unfortunately, fans can no longer obtain these beloved or culturally significant titles legally through official channels.
The removal of these game titles is linked to their publishers, Adult Swim Games and Cartoon Network Games, who are owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. In a bid to reduce costs, Warner Bs. Discovery has halted production on several movies and removed original content from streaming services. This cost-cutting strategy has also impacted its video games. Back in March, several Adult Swim indie games like “Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality”, “Duck Game”, and “Fist Puncher” were at risk of being removed by Warner Bros. Discovery. Some Adult Swim games were later saved from delisting, but others didn’t receive any communication from Warner Bs. Discovery, leading to another round of removals.
On Twitter, Wario64 pointed out that at least five games were taken down from Steam, the Nintendo eShop, and other platforms on December 23rd of this year. The removal of Warner Bros. published titles includes “Adventure Time: Finn and Jake’s Epic Quest,” “Adventure Time: Magic Man’s Head Games,” “OK K.O.! Let’s Play Heroes,” “Steven Universe: Save the Light,” and “Steven Universe: Unleash the Light.” Additionally, the 2020 game “Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time” has been taken off the market. On Steam, each of these games displays a brief message stating that they will no longer be available for purchase after December 23rd, 2024, signed by either “Cartoon Network Games” or “Adult Swim Games.
These Cartoon Network Games Have Been Delisted
- Adventure Time: Finn and Jake’s Epic Quest
- Adventure Time: Magic Man’s Head Games
- OK K.O. Let’s Play Heroes
- Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time
- Steven Universe: Save the Light
- Steven Universe: Unleash the Light
Some video games under the Cartoon Network Games banner, such as “Cartoon Network Journeys VR” and “Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake,” can still be found on Steam. The soundtrack for the game “OK K.O.! Let’s Play Heroes,” which was recently taken down, is still available for purchase separately. At this point, Cartoon Network Games, Adult Swim Games, and Warner Bros. Discovery have not disclosed the reason behind the removal of these games.
The oldest among the games like “Adventure Time: Finn and Jake’s Epic Quest”, which debuted in April 2014, is being withdrawn from sale. On the other hand, “Steven Universe: Save the Light” and “OK K.O. Let’s Play Heroes” were launched in 2018, with “Steven Universe: Unleash the Light” following suit in 2021. This decision echoes a mass removal of Adult Swim games that occurred in March 2024, but due to public backlash, many titles were reinstated. Fans have expressed disappointment over Warner Bros.’ sudden decision to remove these games, particularly “Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time”, as it served as the canonical ending to the show’s fifth season.
