As a seasoned Pokemon gamer who has been playing since the late ’90s, I can truly appreciate the sheer determination and perseverance it takes to complete a challenge like this one. PointCrow’s accomplishment is nothing short of extraordinary, especially considering his self-proclaimed “aggressively mediocre” gaming skills.
One Pokemon streamer has just completed one of the most maddeningly difficult fan-driven challenges in the entire franchise, and it took him nearly 4,000 attempts to do it. The Kaizo Ironmon Challenge is considered by many players to be the most difficult task in the Pokemon fandom, and it’s a feather in the cap that Twitch streamer PointCrow had been chasing for more than a full year.
Initially introduced to the western world in 1998, Pokemon games were primarily designed for children. However, as those initial young players have matured into adults, there’s been an increased desire for more complex gameplay experiences that the standard games may not offer. In recent times, the concept of Pokemon nuzlockes has gained popularity. This involves setting additional rules for oneself, such as limiting level grinding, releasing any Pokemon that gets defeated in battle, and starting the game from scratch following a single lost battle.
The Kaizo Ironmon Challenge, similar to a nuzlocke but with additional rules, demands a player to conquer an entire game using only one Pokemon at a time. It also includes randomized move sets, no leveling up from defeating wild Pokemon, and numerous other challenging regulations. Despite its daunting nature, PointCrow managed this remarkable accomplishment during a Twitch live stream after 3,978 attempts spanning 15 months. He triumphantly cheered as a swift Aerial Ace move defeated the top-tier Champion Blue’s level 92 Dugtrio in a single hit while playing a randomized version of Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen.
Pokemon Streamer Completes Nearly Impossible Challenge
PointCrow managed to conquer this task remarkably, given that his Twitch channel’s self-label is “Poorly skilled at every game I engage.” His victorious Pokemon, an exceptional Flareon, was armed with Tri Attack, Brick Break, Aerial Ace, and Bulk Up. During the challenge, he frequently employed Bulk Up to boost his Flareon’s Attack and Defense capabilities, although he acknowledged there were instances where the Flareon could have been defeated. In a subsequent live stream on December 18, discussing his winning streak, he pondered whether Flareon should be excluded from future challenges, eventually deciding to keep it in his roster, finding it amusing to repeat the Kaizo Ironmon Challenge victory with the same Pokemon twice.
Despite having completed what might be the toughest task in Pokemon, the streamer appears unwilling to abandon his plans for more difficult runs. On a post-challenge stream, PointCrow expressed that there is still much more to come for his audience.
