Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Casts Jason Momoa to Play Lobo

As a dedicated fan of DC Comics and their cinematic universe, I am beyond thrilled with the recent news about the renewal of Creature Commandos for season 2, the upcoming release of Superman, and now the confirmation that Jason Momoa will be playing Lobo in the DC Universe.

Having watched Milly Alcock shine as a fierce and powerful superhero in House of the Dragon, I am confident that she will bring the same energy to her role as Supergirl in Woman of Tomorrow. The addition of Jason Momoa as Lobo is another fantastic choice by the team behind the DC Universe.

Momoa’s previous experience playing Aquaman and his successful portrayal of Arthur Curry have demonstrated his ability to bring complex characters to life on screen. While I was initially sad to see the end of the Snyderverse, I am excited about Momoa’s new role as Lobo in the DCU.

It is always a delight to see familiar faces returning to the DC Universe, but it’s even more exciting when they take on fresh roles, such as Momoa’s transformation from Aquaman to Lobo. The anticipation for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and the upcoming release of Superman written and directed by James Gunn is palpable, and I can hardly wait to see how these new stories unfold in the DC Universe.

In the meantime, I’ll just have to keep refreshing my Instagram feed, hoping for more exciting updates from the cast and crew! Who knows, maybe we’ll even get a sneak peek of Lobo in action before June 26, 2026, when Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to be released. And hey, if Momoa’s Lobo ever crosses paths with Aquaman again, I can only imagine the hilarious banter between these two DC heavyweights!

Following the renewal of Creature Commandos for season 2 and the release of the first trailer for Superman, James Gunn’s DCU reboot/launch is in full swing. Next on the list for this significant brand relaunch is the unveiling of Supergirl: Girl of the Future.

In the star-studded cast of “House of the Dragon,” the lead role portrayed by Milly Alcock, we have just welcomed another significant actor – Jason Momoa.

Jason Momoa is Playing Lobo in the DCU

Jason Momoa, known for his previous superhero stint as Aquaman under DC’s DCEU, is stepping into a fresh character now that the Snyderverse DCEU has ended. In the revamped DC Universe (easily distinguishable!), Momoa will portray Lobo, and he’ll introduce his villainous self in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The actor announced this exciting change on his Instagram account.

As a dedicated follower of the DC Universe under James Gunn’s leadership, I’ve been on tenterhooks about Jason Momoa’s potential role from the get-go. Initially, there were whispers he might reprise Aquaman, one of the Snyderverse actors with a chance to continue the legacy. However, those murmurs took a turn when news broke that Momoa had a clandestine meeting with Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran about something other than Aquaman. And boy, was it a surprise when I heard… the suspenseful cymbals please… Lobo!

It’s unclear if Jason Momoa’s initial meeting with DC was for the role of Lobo, but he has officially been cast as this anti-hero character known for his superhuman strength, regenerative powers, and invincibility. Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983, a creation by Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen.

Momoa Shined as Aquaman

Prior to taking on Lobo’s role, Jason Momoa had already portrayed Aquaman in two individual films and Justice League. The actor’s debut as Arthur Curry was a massive hit for DC, and remains the most successful film from the Snyderverse. It is also the only movie from that time period to surpass $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

In 2023, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel, hit the screens but fell short financially and commercially. Given that the DCEU was transitioning into the DCU at the time, it’s challenging to attribute the film’s poor performance solely to Jason Momoa.

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a film inspired by its 2022 comic book counterpart, is helmed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella) from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. The release date for this movie is set for June 26, 2026.

Meanwhile, Superman, penned and directed by James Gunn with David Corenswet in the lead role, will mark the beginning of the new DCU on June 11, 2025 in theaters.
