WARNING: This post contains SPOILERS for Solo Leveling Season 2 and the Manhwa series.
The Ant King Is The Final Boss Of Jeju Island Arc In Solo Leveling
He Appears During The Fourth Raid On The Island
In simpler terms, you could say that the Ant King is an advanced version of the ants found on Jeju Island. This powerful humanoid creature was created by the Ant Queen with the purpose of dominating the planet. Immediately upon his birth, the Ant King began to eliminate S-Rank Hunters who were present on the island at the time. Unlike regular ants, the King possesses extraordinary speed and strength that even the S-Rank Hunters find difficult to keep up with. This is why the Ant King was able to decapitate a Japanese S-Rank healer without anyone realizing he was there. However, his rampage doesn’t end there as he goes on to kill several other S-Rank Hunters on the island.
The Korean Hunters Guild dispatches 16 elite S-Rank Hunters, including some from Japan, on their fourth expedition to Jeju Island. Tragically, it was the Ant King who caused the demise of eight of these hunters. Regrettably, among them was Ryuji Goto, a top-tier Japanese S-Rank Hunter who previously engaged in sparring matches with Jinwoo. Unfortunately, in their encounter, the Ant King defeated Goto Ryuji in a swift two hits.
You sure have a lot to say for someone who’s about to die – Beru.
Instead of other ants scavenging humans as food, the Ant King was on a quest to find a formidable adversary. He possessed a warrior’s spirit from the outset, eager to demonstrate his complete power against a worthy foe. Yet, the Ant King felt disillusioned when numerous S-Rank Hunters were incapable of withstanding even one blow from him. The humanoid beast began to think that he was supreme over all others and no one could challenge him. However, this notion proved short-lived as Jinwoo made his appearance on Jeju Island, ready to confront and eliminate this menace.
Jinwoo Surprises The Ant King With His Tremendous Power
Initially, the Ant King swiftly eliminated Goto Ryuji and prepared to annihilate every surviving Hunter on the island, including Cha Hae-In. But just as it was poised to cause more destruction, Jinwoo unexpectedly arrived on the island. As anticipated, the Ant King was taken aback upon feeling such a powerful presence. Immediately, the monster darted towards Jinwoo to engage in battle and delivered a punch to the face to initiate their duel. Typically, such an attack would have been fatal for a Hunter, yet astonishingly, Jinwoo remained unhurt, only receiving a scratch.
After utilizing all his powers, the Ant King found himself no match for Jinwoo as he effortlessly dodged each assault. After trading multiple attacks, the Ant King came to the realization that Jinwoo was stronger than any other human he had encountered. As a result, he attempted to escape the area. However, Jinwoo wielded the Ruler’s Power to deliver the final strike against the Ant King, effectively eliminating the danger that had long plagued Jeju Island.
Jinwoo Extracts The Shadow Of The Ant King After Defeating Him
The Ant King’s Shadow Is Named Beru
In the narrative, the Ant King proved to be the toughest adversary Jinwoo had encountered up to that point. Consequently, the elite S-Rank Hunter felt compelled to retrieve the Ant King’s shadow before departing the island. Upon being christened Shadow Beru, the new recruit was ordered by Jinwoo to eliminate every last Ant on the island, a task it diligently carried out. While Igris, Iron, and Tusk are steadfast soldiers in Jinwoo’s Shadow Army, Beru emerged as the most vocal of them all.
In this rephrased version:
Beru emerges as one of Jinwoo’s most devoted and powerful shadows. Unlike other Shadows, Beru possesses a distinctive personality, and while he unwaveringly obeys his master’s instructions, the ex-Ant King occasionally takes independent action. For example, Beru decides to heal Thomas Andre in gratitude for the American S-Rank Hunter’s assistance to his master during the battle with the Monarchs. Additionally, when keeping watch over Jinah, Beru becomes engrossed in numerous Korean dramas, which ultimately alters his character. The allure of these Korean TV shows leads Beru to express admiration for his master after defeating each enemy.
Despite transforming into a Shadow, Beru continues to crave combat and takes pleasure in challenging formidable adversaries. As such, Jinwoo arranges for Beru to face off against Cha Hae-In when she requests entry into Jinwoo’s Ahjin Guild. Jinwoo explicitly warns Beru not to inflict harm on Cha Hae-In under any circumstances. However, following a treacherous attack, Beru lets loose his full might against the elite S-Rank Hunter. Thankfully, Jinwoo intervenes just in time to prevent Cha Hae-In from meeting an untimely demise.
It’s true that each Shadow Soldier under Jinwoo is enjoyable to watch, but Beru brings an extra dose of intrigue and depth to the Shadow Army due to his unusual loyalty towards Jinwoo. That’s why it’s not surprising that Beru forms a special bond with Sung Suho, Jinwoo’s son, among all the other Shadows.
