Summary
- Marvel Rivals features lore and history for every character, driving the action-packed gameplay with narratives.
- Non-playable Marvel characters like Dracula, Morbius, and Blade are mentioned in the lore pages.
- Characters like Knull, Odin, Drax, Okoye, and more are hinted at through interactions and lore in Marvel Rivals.
As a long-time Marvel enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of these characters from comic books to video games, I must say that the inclusion of these lesser-known characters in “Marvel Rivals” is truly a testament to the depth and richness of the Marvel Universe. It’s fascinating to see how each character’s unique backstory and personality shine through in their interactions within the game.
Kate Bishop, for instance, with her youthful vigor and strong bond with Hawkeye, brings a fresh perspective to the game that is both engaging and entertaining. I particularly enjoyed the subtle nod to her role as the Young Avengers’ Hawkeye, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans who are familiar with her character.
Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men, is another character whose presence is felt even though he may not be playable in the game. His influence on the Mutants, particularly Magneto and Storm, is evident and adds a sense of continuity that I appreciate as a fan.
Lastly, let’s not forget the humor infused into these interactions. The casual mention of Jeff the Land Shark’s visit to the zoo with Kate or Moon Knight’s quip about Lin Lie not being Danny Rand are just the right amount of levity that keeps the game light-hearted and enjoyable.
On a more personal note, I can’t help but chuckle at the irony that a game like “Marvel Rivals” would feature characters like Shuri, Okoye, and Kate Bishop – powerful women who are often overshadowed in mainstream media – as prominent figures within its lore. It’s a small step towards gender equality in gaming, but it’s a step in the right direction nonetheless.
In the end, “Marvel Rivals” is more than just a game; it’s a tribute to the Marvel Universe and its rich tapestry of characters that continue to captivate fans like me around the world. And who knows? Maybe one day we’ll see Hunter the Rabbit joining the fray!
It won’t take long until all beloved Marvel characters join the lineup of Marvel Rivals, given the increasing number of them appearing in this franchise. In Marvel Rivals, players can delve into each character’s backstory and history, as well as explore maps, seasons, and special events.
This tale unveils the stories driving the intense gameplay in Marvel Rivals, explaining the motives behind different heroes clashing. Scattered across the hero shooter and through dialogue, numerous Marvel characters are named. At present, though, most of them aren’t playable characters – but who knows what the future holds?
10. Dracula
A Primary Villain in the Lore
In numerous character profiles, readers often come across repeated references to vampires, especially in relation to battles between heroes and these bloodsuckers who were invading the city. This vampire incident carries significant weight for several superheroes, such as Spider-Man and Cloak and Dagger, since they engaged with these creatures post the events of Doom vs Doom 2099.
In the tale “Unfriendly Neighborhood” from Spidey’s universe, I found myself squaring off against none other than Dracula, along with Blade and The Human Torch. As this chapter came to a close, Dracula ominously whisked Blade away into the shadows, leaving me in the dark about his fate.
9. Morbius
An Unlikely Vampire Ally
Given all the chatter about vampires, it’s only fitting that Morbius comes up in conversation. In fact, Morbius is briefly mentioned in Marvel Rivals, specifically when Squirrel Girl and Spider-Man are on the same side. With these two teammates, Spider-Man begins discussing the vampire invasion of New York with Squirrel Girl.
Toward the close of our discussion, Spider-Man additionally mentions that Morbius joined the battle against Dracula’s vampires. As a result, it can be said that Morbius now exists within the realm of Marvel’s heroic counterparts.
8. Blade
Vampire-Hunter and NYC Hero
As a die-hard gamer, I find myself embodied as the legendary hero, Blade, in the gritty tale of “Unfriendly Neighborhood.” In this storyline, it’s my duty to protect New York City from the bloodthirsty vampires. One day, Spider-Man refuses assistance to Spider-Zero, choosing instead to stand his ground and defend our city. Suddenly, The Human Torch drops by, informing Spider-Man that I, Blade, have arrived on the scene.
Initially, the trio of heroes engage in battle against Dracula’s underlings. However, when Dracula emerges, he overpowers the three superheroes with apparent ease. In the midst of this, Blade manages to rescue Spider-Man, but Dracula snatches Blade and transports him back to his castle.
7. Knull
The Powerful King in Black
Given that Klyntar (the symbiotes) is a map in the game Marvel Rivals, it’s logical that Knull, who plays a significant role in Venom’s backstory, would be featured within the game as well. In the storyline “Betray The Umbra,” Venom and Magik join forces to overthrow Knull’s rule, eventually teaming up with Adam Warlock.
In the lore, it is stated that Venom managed to retrieve the Necrosword, a weapon embedded in a Celestial’s side. Knull, known as the “Messenger of the Abyss,” is also mentioned in connection with Hela, the goddess of death. Both of them are depicted as vying for dominance over the Celestials and Hel.
6. Odin
Old King of Asgard
As a gamer, I’d put it this way:
I was amazed to discover that Old Man Thor’s (Odin) digital incarnation has found its place in the Marvel Rivals universe! Believe it or not, his most detailed backstory is hidden within Adam Warlock’s lore pages. In one of these tales titled “Golden Sail,” Adam experiences a strange awakening when he hears a mysterious voice calling him by name, and lo and behold, who should appear but the All-Father himself!
In this scenario, it is revealed that the voice belongs to Odin, who shares a slumbering moment with Adam Warlock as the fate of the multiverse hangs in the balance. Meanwhile, comic book enthusiasts discover that Loki has seized control over Yggsgard, one of the game maps in Marvel Rivals. Furthermore, it is predicted that Knull poses a threat. Consequently, Adam Warlock swears to bring an end to Knull’s dominion.
5. Drax
The Guardian’s Destroyer
Not all members of the Guardians of the Galaxy team were included in the Marvel Rivals, with Gamora and Drax being two who didn’t make the cut. However, Drax is still frequently mentioned within the Guardians group. In a conversation between Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon, Star-Lord expresses that Drax will surely be disappointed for missing out on the action.
In another conversation between Mantis and Rocket Raccoon, Rocket mentions that he plans to contact Drax for a prison break. These dialogues spark optimism among fans, who eagerly anticipate seeing The Destroyer potentially join the roster of the hero-shooter game someday.
4. Okoye
Wakanda’s Fierce General
In the Marvel Rivals game, some of Wakanda’s brave champions are subtly suggested, among them Shuri and Okoye. Interestingly, only Okoye is briefly mentioned within the game, which can be discovered while exploring the Imperial Dueling Ground map in Wakanda itself. Upon closer inspection, you’ll find Okoye’s armor showcased on a wall exhibit. By approaching this exhibit, you can engage with it, and in response, hear a message from Okoye herself.
By carrying out this action, players will unlock the achievement titled “Heroine of Wakanda.” This significant milestone, featuring prominently the character Okoye, is crucial for players to engage with in order to accomplish their objectives and earn this achievement.
3. Danny Rand
The Original Iron Fist
When fans learned that Iron Fist would join Marvel Rivals, many assumed it would be Danny Rand, given the circumstances. However, quite a few players were taken aback when they discovered that Marvel Rivals’ Iron Fist was actually Lin Lie, who is also recognized as the comic book hero Swordmaster in Marvel Comics.
In their encounter, Moon Knight mentions that Lin Lie doesn’t resemble the Iron Fist he was familiar with, prompting Lin Lie to question if Moon Knight had been expecting Danny Rand instead. Additionally, upon appearing in the game, Lin Lie identifies the Iron Fists present and vows to surpass them all, asserting his intention to be the greatest.
2. Kate Bishop
The Young Avengers’ Hawkeye
Kate Bishop played a significant role in both Hawkeye and Jeff the Land Shark’s lives, often referenced through stories and dialogue between them. During a conversation in the spawn room, Hawkeye expressed concern for Jeff, saying that Kate had been “extremely anxious” about him.
As a dedicated fan who’s watched countless shark-themed movies, I must say that Jeff’s “Sharknado” lore page is a thrilling ride! One detail that caught my attention was the brief mention of his friend Kate, reminiscing about their trip to the zoo together. At the end of the movie, Jeff imagines what his friends would do in his predicament, and guesses that Kate, being the resourceful one, would probably use an explosive arrow to escape. It’s fascinating to see how Jeff’s memories of his friend add depth to the storyline and contribute to the overall suspense of “Sharknado.” I can only imagine the adventures I’d have with a friend like Kate in a shark-infested world!
1. Charles Xavier
Founder of the X-Men and School for Mutants
Given that the team of X-Men in Marvel Rivals is quite extensive, it’s reasonable to anticipate a reference to Charles Xavier within the Mutants’ backstory. In “Trial of Magneto,” however, Charles Xavier is merely alluded to as Magneto constructs Cerebro in Magneto’s personal narrative.
According to the storyline of Storm, the entity known as “Dreamy Dew” is subtly suggested to have a deeper connection with Charles. Storm senses a strong presence and desires to inform Professor Xavier about it promptly, feeling that her vision shares similarities with his. However, she ponders where exactly the professor might be amidst the tumultuous events of multiple universes.
