When the warning sirens blared signaling a citywide lockdown in Raccoon City, the scientists maintaining Plant 43, a follow-up to Plant 42 from the initial game, were compelled to evacuate. Unfortunately, due to negligence leading to chaos within the plant, it resulted in the gruesome deaths of several caretakers and the implantation of seedlings into their bodies. Over time, these unfortunate individuals transformed into mindless corpses, identifiable by the vines that draped around them.

In essence, the Ivy beasts serve as a stark reminder that the virus outbreak affected not only ordinary citizens but also scientists from Umbrella Corporation. Witnessing their deteriorated condition truly underscores the expansive reach of the contagion, suggesting that nearly the entire town was transformed into monsters.

Soon after, Birkin underwent a transformation into a shadow of his original form, developing an oversized right arm which later revealed a prominent eye that would prove vulnerable during boss fights. Transforming into a mutant, Birkin pursued his daughter, Sherry, but was halted by Claire. Despite her efforts, Claire managed to keep him at bay until the destructive self-explosion at the game’s end eliminated him.
