After the Netflix success of the Fear Street trilogy, another film based on R.L. Stine’s book series was planned for release in 2025 as part of their streaming service. This series, focusing on a town plagued by a curse from a witch that caused murders spanning multiple decades, became extremely popular with the streamer, leading to the greenlighting of Fear Street: Prom Queen.
The initial Fear Street films presented three distinct narratives involving a teen group who encountered a woman named Sarah Fier. Contrary to her reputation, she wasn’t the villain as one might assume. The first film took place in the 1990s, the second was set in 1978, and the third delved into the origins of Shadyside dating back to the 17th century. Initially, it appeared that the following Fear Street installment would be a standalone movie set in 1988; however, there are rumors suggesting that we may soon see four more Fear Streets, possibly two more based on Prom Queen.
RL Stine Hopes Three More Fear Street Films Will Be Greenlit
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter regarding the impending launch of Goosebumps: The Vanishing, the second season of the Disney+ series derived from his renowned horror book series, Stine was inquired about the Fear Street movie series. The writer hinted that he’s been crafting three additional Fear Street films, expressing hope that the writers’ efforts will result in these projects being approved by Netflix.
It appears that if Stine’s statements are correct, the standalone movie “Prom Queen” could potentially serve as a launchpad for the next trilogy in the “Fear Street” series. This is intriguing because unlike the original trilogy, which was released one after another, this new approach would allow for cliffhangers without making fans wait too long to find out how the horror story concludes.

I’m excited to share that there are three upcoming “Fear Street” movies in the works, which suggests R.L. Stine might be returning to his classic format. One movie is likely to be set in contemporary times, another might delve into the past a bit, and the third could take us even further back. However, if they decide to expand on the “Prom Queen” storyline, that approach could change. As for now, it’s uncertain whether this new trilogy will be connected to Sarah Fier’s legacy or explore something different altogether.
In the upcoming Fear Street film, slated for release in 2025, it’s evident that the town will be plagued by one misfortune after another, much like how it unfolds in As Prom Queen, which is set in Shadyside. This movie’s placement before the initial installment of the original trilogy is crucial because the curse that haunted Shadyside was lifted at the end of that series.
