Hyper Light Breaker’s Abyss King and Crowns Explained

In Hyper Light Breaker, the player and their companions are given the mission to vanquish the Abyss King, a formidable entity endangering the Overgrowth, with his menace recurring each time the player enters a fresh, procedurally generated realm. However, the Abyss King doesn’t act solo; he dispatches his Crowns – powerful adversaries that players of Hyper Light Breaker must conquer before they can engage the King directly.

In a chat with Game Rant, the creators of Hyper Light Breaker revealed that players must first confront Crowns before they can reach the Abyss King. Each Crown will have its own distinctive appearance and battle strategy to keep gamers engaged. Additionally, the team hinted at two Crowns that can be fought in the Early Access version of Hyper Light Breaker, as well as how the Abyss King’s influence will be felt across the game world.

NOTE: The Abyss King Boss Battle will not be available at Early Access launch.

Hyper Light Breaker’s Early Access Will Feature Two Crowns To Battle

As a keen enthusiast, I can’t wait to embark on my journey in Hyper Light Breaker! To finally face the Abyss King, I’ll have to conquer his Crowns first. The objective of each game cycle is to defeat three Crowns when the game officially launches, paving the way for the ultimate showdown with the Abyss King. During its Early Access debut, there will be two Crown bosses waiting for players like me to give them a run for their money!

Dro

1) The initial character is called Dro, a wolf who’s blindfolded and possesses a menacing sword according to lead producer Michael Clark. He refers to Dro as being very agile and aggressive, leaping, slashing, and stomping throughout the battlefield. Once her health decreases significantly, she retaliates by launching waves of projectiles. Clark likened this part of the fight to a fast-paced “bullet hell” video game.

Exus

In the second Early Access Crown, called Exus, employs a diverse array of fiery assaults to take down opponents. According to Clark, Exus’s attack style involves whirling up flaming vortexes in his arena while punching players with swift dashes and hurling fireballs.

The Abyss King’s Influence Will Be Felt In Early Access

When Hyper Light Breaker initially releases, The Abyss King won’t be present for the battle. But don’t assume that his absence implies you can explore the world without feeling his power. As players grow stronger and start defeating his Crowns, he will become cognizant of your actions. This ambitious ruler won’t ignore a growing threat lightly; he’ll respond accordingly. Clark clarified the scenario for Early Access players once they manage to catch the attention of The Abyss King:

– When Hyper Light Breaker first launches, The Abyss King won’t be around to fight.
– However, his influence will still be felt as players grow stronger and defeat his Crowns.
– The Abyss King will become aware of your actions and won’t ignore a growing threat.
– Clark explained that once Early Access players attract the notice of The Abyss King, he will respond accordingly.

During every cycle, you’ll sense his influence. Engaging him would lead to a barrage of meteors falling onto the world, spawning groups of adversaries for the player, and sending potent assassins in pursuit, tracking you throughout the game map.

Or:

Throughout each cycle, his dominance is evident. If provoked, he’ll retaliate by raining meteors on the world, populating it with enemy groups, and deploying powerful hunters that chase you across the map.
