Influenced by numerous portrayals of Hell and the Underworld found in various stories, the Nether dimension made its debut in Minecraft back in 2010. Players can gain access to this mysterious realm through the construction of an obsidian Nether Portal, which was modeled after the portals depicted in The Wheel of Time series. Initially, the Nether was quite simple compared to the intricate hellish landscape it has evolved into today. In its early days, the Nether consisted mainly of a handful of Zombie Pigmen and flying Ghasts as inhabitants, along with netherrack, bedrock, gravel, glowstone, soul sand, and lava as its primary components. However, despite its modest beginnings, the Nether quickly became a favorite among players, leading Mojang to continue enhancing this dimension throughout the 2010s.
