As we’ve just completed the first week in January, Pokemon GO enthusiasts can now look forward to the upcoming Spotlight Hour event set for Tuesday. With an abundance of events taking place and being initiated within the game, players have a lot on their plates. However, this also means they should be well-prepared with plenty of Pokeballs and berries in stock for this Spotlight Hour.

Pokemon GO frequently hosts numerous events monthly, such as Max Mondays, Community Days, and weekly Spotlight Hours featuring unique Pokemon for capture and a chance at finding their Shiny forms. Let’s dive into the details of the upcoming event.

Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour

The special event for Pokemon GO, known as Spotlight Hour, will start on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, from 6 PM to 7 PM in your local time. This week’s focus is on the Pokemon duo of Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb. With this event, trainers will be busy trying to find Shiny versions of these Pokemon. Both of these creatures have unique advantages and can prove particularly useful when additional damage is required.

This week, for the Spotlight Hour, players should prepare by gathering plenty of Pokeballs, Berries, and Incense since they’ll be capturing two Pokemon instead of one. These items can boost the chances of evolving or finding a shiny version of these Pokemon. Remember to check your Pokemon storage for available space too, as you may catch many of these Pokemon during the hour and not want to pause to transfer them.

Initially, Voltorb is a character from the Pokemon universe that appears as number 100 in the Pokedex. This creature is discoverable in the Kanto Generation 1 and has the option for trading or transferring it into Pokemon Home. The rewards for capturing this Pokemon include 3 candies and 100 Stardust. Voltorb forms part of a two-stage evolution process, with Electrode being its final form after spending 50 candies. With a maximum Combat Power (CP) of 1141, 109 Attack points, and 111 Defense points, Voltorb can deliver substantial damage when the player is in a tight spot.

Keep in mind that the featured Pokemon belongs to the Electric type, making it vulnerable to more damage from Ground-type opponents (a multiplier of 1.6). Conversely, it takes less damage from Electric-, Flying-, and Steel-types (a reduction of 0.63). Given these characteristics, a suitable moveset for this Pokemon could be Spark and Discharge, delivering 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO. This set excels particularly under Rainy weather conditions. Additionally, there exists a rare Shiny version of this Pokemon in the blue color scheme.

For the second feature in Spotlight Hour, we have Hisuian Voltorb, a member of the Voltorb clan, sharing its Pokedex number (#100) with Voltorb. Originating from Kanto’s Generation 1, this Pokemon can be traded and moved to Pokemon Home for transfer. Upon capture, it rewards the player with 3 candies and 100 Stardust. With 50 candies, Hisuian Voltorb can evolve into Hisuian Electrode. It has a CP (Combat Power) of 1141, Defense of 111, and Attack of 109. Despite being part of the Voltorb family, it belongs to the Electric-Type Pokemon category as well.

Hisuian Voltorb differs from regular Voltorb in that it not only absorbs damage but also lessens the damage inflicted on other Pokémon. Different types like Bug, Fire, Ice, Poison deal a higher damage (160%), while Grass, Steel, Water, and other Electric types deal a lower damage (63%) or even less to Electric-type Pokemon (39%). The optimal moveset for this Pokémon is Tackle and Thunderbolt, providing a Damage Per Second of 5.39 and Total Damage Output of 37.60. During Partly Cloudy or Rain weather, the player can deal more damage with added weather bonuses. Additionally, there’s a shiny version of this Pokémon, characterized by its black body instead of the usual orange one.
