PUBG, InZOI to Receive Nvidia AI-Powered Players and NPCs

Over the past few years, Nvidia has grown into one of the leading artificial intelligence (AI) corporations globally. So far, this position was established by offering the necessary hardware for AI-driven servers and computers used for training. However, there may be a shift in direction in the near future.

According to Business Wire, at CES 2025, developers Krafton and Nvidia showcased an innovative use of artificial intelligence known as the Co-Playable Character.

With a small, AI-driven language model located nearby, these businesses assert they can generate Non-Player Characters (NPCs) capable of engaging users conversationally, much like chatbots, and even mimicking human decision-making processes.

As of now, there hasn’t been any public display of the technology, meaning we must trust in Nvidia’s claims. However, according to Keita Iida, Vice President of Developer Relations at the graphics card manufacturer, this technology holds a promise to revolutionize the gaming experience.

KRAFTON is enabling shared gameplay characters by integrating advanced AI tech like NVIDIA ACE into various live games they offer, creating fresh and distinctive gaming experiences.

As a gamer, it’s no wonder that I’m thrilled to see Nvidia, who’ve rebranded themselves as more than just a graphics company but an AI powerhouse, embracing AI in gaming. Given their deep involvement in the AI competition, it seems they’re poised to lead the charge for AI upscaling on the upcoming Switch 2.

What’s new is the involvement of a major development house like PUBG and InZOI’s Krafton.

What Are Krafton’s Co-Playable Characters?

According to Krafton, a CPC (Co-Playable Character) differs significantly from a typical Non-Player Character (NPC). While they don’t explicitly state it, the essence seems to be that these characters function more like an artificial player within the game rather than a standard part of the game.

We’re not well-versed in the details about CPCs beyond their known locations. However, they are slated to appear in both PUBG and InZOI, the company’s prominent games. In the former, they will collaborate as cooperative partners, while in the latter, they will simply pass by as non-playable characters.

There’s some uncertainty about whether Nvidia will just create this specific feature or if it will necessitate one of their latest graphics cards. Additionally, it’s not clear to what extent the trailers (which are provided below for viewing) can be relied upon.

In the game InZOI, Smart Zois and CPCs don’t appear significantly smarter than a character in The Sims 4. Conversely, in PUBG, AI Ally is said to have the ability to carry on conversations and make strategic decisions alongside the player.
