Paul Mescal’s out of Ridley Scott’s next movie, Jacob Elordi’s in (potentially).
It appears that the diversity of roles led to Paul Mescal’s departure from Scott’s upcoming movie, “The Dog Stars.” The news indicates that he had to withdraw because he was committed to filming Sam Mendes’ Beatles series.
If you kept up with the promotional events for “Gladiator II,” it’s somewhat disheartening to learn about. It seems that Mescal and Scott shared a strong bond, and their eagerness to collaborate once more was palpable. Therefore, it wasn’t shocking when Mescal agreed to be part of “Dog Stars.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m pretty excited about the upcoming anthology series on The Beatles. Since it’s four separate films, each one delves into a unique perspective of a band member. While the official cast hasn’t been revealed yet, there are whispers suggesting that I might be playing Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson could be John Lennon, Barry Keoghan takes on Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn portrays George Harrison. However, it’s important to note that nothing is set in stone as of now.
For Ridley Scott, the silver lining is that while he’s let go of a promising young talent in the film industry, he’s now working with another rising star in Hollywood. With an impressive 53 director credits under his belt and having recently turned 87, Scott has six more exciting projects lined up.
- You Should Be Dancing
- Roads to Freedom (Mini Series)
- Queen & Country
- The Dog Stars
- Wraiths of the Broken Land
- Dope Thief (TV Series)
What Is The Dog Stars About?
The Dog Stars (Based on the 2012 Novel by Peter Heller)
Synopsis: On Amazon, this book’s summary goes as follows:
The narrative revolves around Hig, a survivor of a post-apocalyptic world. He lives in a safe haven with his dog, Jasper, and spends his days scavenging for supplies. One day, he meets Bangley, a fellow survivor who challenges Hig’s solitary existence. As they form an uneasy alliance, they encounter other survivors and face the harsh realities of their new world. The story explores themes of survival, human nature, and friendship in a post-apocalyptic setting.
Hig’s wife has left him, his companions have perished, and he dwells in a neglected airport hangar with his canine companion, Jasper, and an unpredictable, gun-wielding recluse called Bangley. Yet, when a mysterious transmission crackles through the radio of his 1956 Cessna, a flicker of optimism stirs within him, suggesting that a brighter future might lie beyond their closely monitored boundaries. Driven by this sliver of hope, he ventures past the point of no return and follows the static-filled path, eventually discovering something that is at once superior and inferior to any dream he could ever entertain.
The “optimistic radio signal” seems a bit clichéd these days, given that the plot was used in “A Quiet Place Part II,” as late as 2020. However, it’s worth noting that the trope itself might not hold much weight compared to how it’s employed. Some viewers might race to read “Dog Stars” prior to the movie, but I prefer to wait for the film to unfold its story.
When Will The Dog Stars Come Out?
Scott’s upcoming movie, titled “You Should Be Dancing,” is set to be a biographical film focusing on The Bee Gees. It’s expected that the filming will commence on January 6, 2025. There’s speculation it might be released as early as the third or fourth quarter of the same year.
Despite lacking information about the production process of “Dog Stars”, it’s been suggested that Sam Mendes intends to start filming The Beatles biopics in July 2025. This timing implies that Scott might begin filming between the third quarter and early fourth quarter of 2025, aiming for a summer 2026 premiere.
