Despite the promotional excitement, Highguard is a player-versus-player shooter with raiding elements, where you play as a “Warden” – essentially an arcane gunslinger fighting over a legendary continent. Honestly, it sounds pretty similar to many existing games in the looter shooter, hero shooter, and battle royale categories. I’ll admit, I’m a little tired of those genres in general, which probably explains why this game didn’t immediately grab my attention.

Both games move away from older LEGO titles by featuring a fully controllable 3rd-person camera and including voice acting – a departure from the fixed perspectives and silent gameplay of previous games. This makes Legacy of the Dark Knight feel more polished, complex, and cinematic. We expect these improvements to be noticeable in many areas, and the combat system is looking particularly promising.

Hytale is currently in early access, meaning it’s still under development and doesn’t have all of its features yet. This guide covers the most important things to do in the game right now, but expect more content and ways to progress as updates and expansions are released in the future.

If you didn’t know, the Switch 2 release of Borderlands 4 was postponed back in September 2025 because the developers needed more time to finish it. We haven’t heard a new release date since then, but a recent listing suggests one could be announced soon.

The game has officially finished development, about two months before it’s scheduled to launch on March 19th.
