Should you have dreamt of embarking on the grand adventure within the realm of One Piece and mimicking Roronoa Zoro’s three-blade prowess, here lies an opportunity to bring a piece of that fantasy to life. Proplica, a prop company under Bandai, has made this possible by unveiling not a single but all three of Zoro’s iconic swords in lifelike replicas. The set includes the swords along with a display stand and unique characteristics that distinguish them from other replicas available on the market.
On the 23rd of December, I was thrilled to learn about Zoro’s replica swords being announced officially on Premium Bandai’s platform (previously Twitter). The next day, Christmas Eve, my excitement multiplied as the One Piece manga’s X account gracefully shared the news. To top it off, BANDAI SPIRITS dropped a special video showcasing these replicas on YouTube around the same time. Each of these platforms offered unique glimpses into the swords’ intricate details and special attributes.
Zoro’s Famous Three Swords
When Two Just Isn’t Enough
One Piece features an expansive narrative with numerous characters, but Roronoa Zoro stands out as one of the most significant – he’s been present since nearly the start of this epic journey. Zoro is driven to become the greatest swordsman on earth, and he doesn’t limit himself to a single weapon; instead, he skillfully handles three swords. Each of Zoro’s swords currently has a name (as the story progresses), along with their own unique backstories. The trio of swords are known as Wado Ichimonji, Sandai Kitetsu, and Enma.
Initially, when Zoro entered the narrative, only the Wado Ichimonji was named. Notably, this distinctive white blade is the one that Zoro often carries between his teeth, a characteristic feature of him. This same sword can be observed in the live-action adaptation of “One Piece” on Netflix. However, beyond the television series, Zoro’s other swords have evolved and enhanced over time. Among these, Enma stands out as it was once possessed by the legendary samurai Kozuki Oden. While Zoro can wield all three swords concurrently, he only does so when it’s necessary.
Official Replicas of Zoro’s Swords by Proplica
You Can Wield Three Swords, Too
The three swords crafted by Proplica are authentic One Piece merchandise, manufactured directly by Bandai. These full-sized replicas strive to be as true to the screen as possible. Included in this set are Zoro’s current trio: Wado Ichimonji, Sandai Kitetsu, and Enma. The collection also features a display stand that elegantly showcases all three blades within their scabbards.
Apart from being faithful replicas of the original weapons, these three swords possess an exceptional attribute. They come equipped with newly recorded dialogue lines from Zoro and Kozuki Oden, the former owner of Enma. A snippet of this dialogue is showcased in Bandai Spirits’ YouTube video on the swords. However, please note that the dialogue is only available in Japanese, voiced by the original actors who portray these characters.
Apart from sharing images of the three blades, the One Piece manga’s official account additionally posted a picture showing Zoro gripping Wado Ichimonji between his teeth, an action many fans might dream of replicating if they possessed the renowned white sword. The X post by Premium Bandai also provides access to an interview with the team member responsible for crafting the swords; however, please note that it’s only accessible in Japanese.
These replica swords will become available in June exclusively through Premium Bandai Japan for approximately $380 USD (59,400 yen). It is important to note that these are genuine prop swords and not toys. They come equipped with unique voice recordings and a display stand, along with a sheath for each sword. Unlike plain blades, these swords are not bare but have sheaths for safekeeping. If you’re a fan of Roronoa Zoro, this may be your opportunity to own three swords just like his – however, it is strongly advised against using them in practice.
