Elden Ring: Nightreign Network Test Starts February

Summary

  • Elden Ring: Nightreign Network Test announced for 2025 release game.
  • Nightreign features unique 3-player co-op but no cross-platform play.
  • Standalone game within Elden Ring universe offers new boss-hunt co-op experience.

Although Elden Ring: Nightreign’s official release date is only scheduled for some time in 2025, the developers at FromSoftware are already gearing up for testing, as they plan to hold the game’s initial Network Test next month.

The news has been shared on the official Bandai Namco EU site, offering players an opportunity to sign up for a potential slot in the upcoming network trial.

Elden Ring: Nightreign Registrations For Network Test Now Open

Registrations for the trial version of the game will commence on January 10th, with no specified end date. At this point, there’s no information about when the actual test will start or what it will entail. Bandai Namco has only revealed that the network test is a preliminary check to ensure the game runs smoothly before its official release, and selected testers will get a sneak peek of the game prior to launch.

The text also indicates that they plan to perform extensive network load tests on various online systems, essentially focusing on the robustness of the servers.

According to what Bandai Namco has shared, Elden Ring: Nightreign is an individual game set within the Elden Ring universe, and unlike the critically acclaimed action RPG, Nightreign will offer three-player cooperation. However, it’s not going to be a live service game, as confirmed by its developers.

At The Game Awards last year, the unexpected unveiling of Elden Ring: Nightreign took everyone by surprise. Despite being primarily designed for a multiplayer experience (with single-player mode still possible, but not cooperative multiplayer), it’s been confirmed that cross-platform play will not be an option in this game.

It appears that FromSoftware aims to transition Elden Ring from its Souls-like RPG roots into something more akin to Nightreign, which seems to focus primarily on boss fights and potentially incorporates cooperative play. One aspect of Elden Ring we can confirm won’t be present in Nightreign is the option for players to leave messages within the game world, as FromSoftware has provided an explanation for its removal.
