Lego And Nintendo Collaborate On A Lego Gameboy

Lego persistently strengthens ties with the gaming world. Previously, they launched a unique standalone edition, which happened to be their second Horizon set, inspired by the Lego Horizon Adventures video game.

For the upcoming event, although it maintains a child-appropriate atmosphere, it’s geared towards an older crowd and will involve collaboration with a completely new organization.

This upcoming collection features the Nintendo Game Boy, which is scheduled to hit the shelves around October of the current year.

Nintendo unveiled their partnership through a post on X, showcasing a sneak peek of the venture with a tantalizing preview video.

Instead of showing pictures of the finished set, the teaser only displays potential components that might be utilized during its assembly. It seems that the design phase for the set is yet to be completed.

Among these pieces, several tiny squares appear, with two of them appearing ideally shaped for depicting buttons. However, the largest item, an upright pillar topped with a single peg, suggests that the Lego construction process will employ a contemporary, now-universal approach in this project.

To maintain a seamless, uninterrupted surface, it’s likely that LEGO will adopt a design where the studs are not positioned on the top. Instead, they’ll utilize the sides of the poles to create a broad, flat surface, eliminating the need for additional tiles.

The extent of Nintendo’s involvement in the project is not known, but likely minimal.

Lego Continues To Build Relationships With Game Studios

It might be obvious to the observant that this isn’t the first time Lego has launched a set modeled after a video game console. Leveraging some nostalgic feelings, Lego has previously introduced a set based on the Atari 2600.

Lego has often been associated with video games, though historically, its connection was primarily limited to games developed in-house by Lego itself.

Initially tardy in joining the trend, given that Mega Blocks had previously entered the market, Lego has now wholeheartedly dived into the gaming universe. They have launched an extensive collection of sets based on Overwatch, Minecraft, and many more, with this list continually expanding.

It seems that LEGO is aiming for a balanced assortment of contemporary and reminiscent items, except for products that might not appeal as much to children due to being less child-oriented.

But with a stipulation like that, they’ll have no trouble with Nintendo.

Enthusiasts of the Lego Game Boy must be patient as we don’t yet have official images or a confirmed launch date. However, it’s moving forward in production.
