In Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, though it might follow the chronology of Ys 3, it remains an excellent starting point for newcomers to the game. This title introduces players to their first significant challenge with Dularn, but Ellefale, the Azure Queen of Death, is in a class of her own. It’s crucial to mention that players should maintain a safe distance from this boss, as getting too close will increase the chances of her attacks landing.
This boss is tough to beat even at the standard game level, but becomes truly intimidating for beginners attempting the game on harder settings. Yet, with the aid of the Ignis Bracelet, it’s not an insurmountable challenge.
How to Beat Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death
In some games, you don’t have to spend a lot of time leveling up, but in this one, players will need to put in some effort to build up their health above 100. Additionally, they can use Raval Ore to enhance their armor, though it would be more beneficial to save it for improved armor down the line.
Instead of rushing headlong into combat as soon as it begins, players should consider holding back. Not only does this tactic expose them to excessive damage, but it turns out that Ellefale is located beyond the range of their standard attacks.
As a fan, I’m thrilled to know that with my Ignis Bracelet, I can unleash fireballs to take down Ellefale. However, it’s crucial to keep your distance since she tends to target players who are closer. The arena becomes a risky place when you’re up close as her attacks pack quite the punch and can swiftly chip away at my health bar. Despite having a limited arsenal, each of her moves carries significant power, making every encounter with Ellefale an intense battle.
Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death Attacks
Ellefale’s individual attacks aren’t overly harmful, but they can restrict certain areas within the playfield, making movement safety crucial for players. Proper positioning becomes vital due to this, as Ellefale possesses 4 different attacks that each limit safe zones for players.
- A spinning disc attack
- A vertical slashing attack
- Multiple strikes of lighting
- A slow-moving spinning sphere
Spinning Disc
In the upcoming encounter, Ellefale will initiate by hurling a spinning disk from her location straight towards the player. The arena’s size doesn’t allow for an evasive dash from one end to the other; therefore, the only option is to jump. Jump prematurely and you’ll sustain damage upon landing on the disc. To succeed, players must have quick reflexes. If timed poorly, the disk will inflict damage before your leap has reached a sufficient height to avoid it.
In essence, this assault poses a significant threat to players, potentially taking away substantial portions of their vitality. Multiple encounters with Ellefale might be necessary. Notably, Ellefale signals this lethal move by elevating her right arm. This singular action significantly intensifies the challenging boss battle she presents.
Vertical Slash
This slender, sword-like strike can effortlessly be dodged just by moving left or right. Merely sprinting in either direction should suffice to dodge it. However, be prepared as there may be instances where Ellefale launches multiple attacks simultaneously, requiring players to side-step while jumping to clear a spinning disc and dodge the strike concurrently. This move is signaled by Ellefale raising her right arm, serving as a warning before the attack.
Lightning strike
Engaging with enemies such as Ellefale can prove quite tricky during battle. Her most difficult move to dodge is when she leans forward, signaling an upcoming attack. At this point, you should swiftly advance towards her. When Ellefale raises both her arms high above her head, quickly retreat towards the farthest end of the arena and jump. Ellefale will then unleash bolts of lightning, and if a player is moving or jumping towards her, they will take damage. By leaping while fleeing, the player can safely avoid the lightning blasts.
Spinning Sphere
Ellefale generates a rotating orb that gradually advances towards the player, potentially limiting safe zones within the arena. While individually it’s easy to outrun, if another projectile is aimed at the player, the orb may trap them, making encounters with this boss somewhat challenging, even frustrating at times. Ellefale signals her intent for this move by spreading her wings high above her.
