Enter the World
I’m absolutely captivated by Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 so far. Wearing a surround-sound headset, I’ve been wandering through summer forests and fields, feeling the crunch of leaves and twigs beneath my feet as I walk, while birds chirp overhead in the tree canopy. Sunlight filters through the branches, casting a bright patch onto a nearby deer, who senses my presence and flees into the woods.
Perhaps I’ll hunt later.
In the blink of an eye, I find myself treading on a well-worn trail, accompanied by a sparkling brook that would be picture-perfect if it weren’t for the ruffians blocking my way. They’re threatening to take my hard-earned coins; all I can do is beg them to let me be, as I’m broke and have nothing left to give.
They don’t care, and in a flash, I’m on my back.
Following a reload, I find myself in a neighboring hamlet, observing a heated altercation between two merchants. The cause of their dispute is unknown to me. As townsfolk gather to witness the commotion, I stealthily leave and stroll along the path, purposely avoiding eye contact with the locals since I’m an outsider and they harbor suspicion towards me due to a recent tavern brawl.
That’s how granular Warhorse Studios has made Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
In this extraordinary game, the developers have meticulously thought through every detail, whether it’s the reputation system or how the AI handles items you’ve dropped. They’ve also taken care of intricate aspects such as drying herbs and smoking meat to preserve resources, not just the big, grand moments.
This is just the beginning.
Henry Returns
Among the many intriguing characters I’ve encountered in gaming, Henry from Skalitz (portrayed by Tom McKay) stands out as one of my personal favorites. Witnessing his journey from humble beginnings to extraordinary heights in the opening game was truly unforgettable. His transformation from a struggling survivor to a powerful figure, determined to reverse his misfortune, perfectly encapsulates the indomitable spirit that defines true grit.
In the sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Henry is joined once more, this time accompanied by Sir Hans Capon, portrayed by Luke Dale. Sir Hans, a steadfast ally, displays a boisterous and confident demeanor, mirroring the immense wealth that his family possesses.
Audentes fortuna iuvat, and all that.
In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, our main characters find themselves in a precarious situation just moments into the game, lying injured after a fight and pursued through the night in near-nakedness. The intensely cinematic start of the game left me utterly astonished – from the captivating soundtrack to the sweeping camera shots over medieval landscapes, it took my breath away immediately.
Straightaway, McKay and Dale shine brilliantly in their roles, embodying the bond they’ve nurtured on and off the set throughout their years. They bring humor, tension, and an authenticity that feels genuine. Initially, there are conventional tutorial missions as one might expect from a game like this, but they are all of exceptional quality.
In other words, the performances by McKay and Dale are outstanding, reflecting their long-standing on-screen chemistry. They manage to balance humor with intensity in a way that feels natural. The beginning of the story includes standard tutorial missions, but these are executed superbly.
As a devotee, if Kingdom Come: Deliverance is unfamiliar territory for you, stepping into its sequel might leave you questioning what lies ahead. However, once you’ve spent a few hours immersing yourself in this grand open-world RPG, you’ll find yourself eager to traverse the landscape, evolve your character, and untangle the intricate, twisting narrative it presents.
Evolution at its Finest
The initial Kingdom Come: Deliverance game was exceptional, yet it had its rough spots. At times, it seemed slow, there were numerous glitches to navigate through, and occasionally, it was surprisingly demanding. This isn’t a game that coddles players; at times, the level of difficulty felt excessively harsh for casual gamers.
In the initial stages of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, players find themselves thrust into grim circumstances that reduce them from esteemed nobility to barely surviving peasants, scavenging for meager sustenance. The finery of your previous armor and sharp-edged sword has been replaced by tattered clothes and bloodied fists.
That’s the welcome you get in KCD2 – but it’s phenomenal.
For newcomers to this series, you’re embarking on a journey that begins with crafting Henry of Skalitz from scratch, molding him into your vision, and Warhorse Studios has done an exceptional job of making clear why this process is taking place. This role-playing game (RPG) is designed around you, the player, with the skill paths tailored to your preferences and the character development based on your preferred combat style. Everything within the game is customized and felt by you as the player.
In my Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 review preview, I spent approximately the initial ten hours playing the game, which was sufficient for me to recognize that Warhorse Studios has significantly enhanced all aspects from the first game that I admired. It’s truly an impressive evolution in game development.
In terms of visual appeal, this game is nothing short of breathtaking. The sound design is rich and authentic, with improved movement mechanics that feel incredibly smooth and rewarding compared to its predecessor. The fighting sequences have been refined and streamlined. The AI in the game appears intelligent, responsive, and logical, adding to the sense that the world within it is genuine and alive.
It’s beneficial that it’s grounded in historical accuracy and genuine details – Warhorse took great care to enlist top-notch specialists to ensure every detail, from the way characters wield swords to the actions of local peasants, aligns with the game’s specific era.
Regarding performance, everything’s running smoothly for me. I’m playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 on a high-end gaming computer using a controller, and I’ve got no worries about the game’s stability while it’s running at Ultra 1440p. The gameplay is as smooth as butter and (nearly) bug-free.
Forge Your Story
During my chat with Tom McKay, who plays Henry of Skalitz, he shared insights into the intricate choice and consequence system embedded within this game. As I delved into the initial stages for my Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 sneak peek, I realized how significant a seemingly casual remark in a dialogue could prove to be.
In this game, the character you play can become whatever you choose: a cunning, underhanded villain like Henry of Skalitz or an upright, honorable figure in the broader community of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. It’s all up to your decision.
As you delve deeper into the game and shape your character, you’ll find yourself immersed in grueling battles, breathtakingly dramatic cutscenes (all of which are professionally acted), and occasionally a more leisurely tempo that gives the sensation of being transported to an earlier era.
In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, the game starts off gradually, offering a leisurely pace that might not reveal its main title for some time, depending on your preferred gameplay style. This slow introduction serves multiple purposes: it provides context, familiarizes players with the storyline, and teaches them the mechanics of the game. This learning-by-doing approach is both enjoyable and effective, making me eager to continue playing without hesitation.
