Summary
- Square Enix paused Final Fantasy 14 housing demolitions due to Los Angeles wildfires.
- The pause affects players on Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers.
- The company will provide updates on when auto-demolition timers will resume.
Square Enix postponed the automatic home deletion timers across all North American servers of Final Fantasy 14 for a day following their resumption. The company explained that this temporary halt in housing demolition within Final Fantasy 14 was due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, promising to keep an eye on the situation before restarting it again.
On the server of the game “Final Fantasy 14,” developed by Square Enix, there’s a scarcity of housing plots. To clear out unused plots belonging to inactive players or free companies, Square Enix employs an automatic demolition timer that can last up to 45 days. This timer resets only when the owner visits their estate, motivating players to stay subscribed to maintain their virtual home. However, if players are unable to access “Final Fantasy 14” due to real-life circumstances like natural disasters, Square Enix has implemented temporary pauses on automatic housing demolition for certain servers or data centers. These breaks are preceded by prior notice about when they will end.
Despite an earlier announcement that auto-demolitions would resume in North America for Final Fantasy 14, this will not occur. According to the Lodestone, auto-demolitions on North American servers have been temporarily halted, starting Thursday, January 9, at 11:20 PM Eastern. This pause is a result of the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires and no date has been specified for when the demolition timers will be activated again. Previously, the break in auto-demolitions, which ended on January 8, was due to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The current halt only applies to Final Fantasy 14 players who own housing plots on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, or Dynamis data centers. As before, homeowners can reset their timers to the maximum 45-day duration at any time during the ongoing pause.
Final Fantasy 14 Pauses Automatic Housing Demolition Timers After Restarting Them
- Final Fantasy 14 paused automatic housing demolitions on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers.
- The ongoing Los Angeles wildfires were the main reason Square Enix took action.
- The new pause started a day after a previous moratorium ended after three months.
- Square Enix will monitor the situation and update players on when timers will resume.
Square Enix has made it clear they will keep a close eye on the progress of the LA wildfires and extend their condolences to anyone affected by this disaster. It’s important to note that the effects of these wildfires aren’t limited to just “Final Fantasy 14”. For instance, the highly-anticipated climax of the web series “Critical Role” has been delayed a week due to the fires. Additionally, an NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings had to be moved from LA to Glendale, Arizona, because of the ongoing wildfires.
From the halt on house demolitions in video games and the reintroduction of the free login promotion for Final Fantasy 14, players have had a lively beginning to the year 2025. It’s yet to be seen how long this current break from automated demolition will persist.
