Because the franchise known as Xenoblade Chronicles is gaining more and more fans, MonolithSoft and Nintendo have been diligently updating each game in the series to run smoothly on current technology. They kicked things off with a fantastic remaster of the original game, and then, in October 2024, something unbelievable happened when Nintendo announced Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition. This version will be available for the Switch on March 20, 2025.

2025 can’t come soon enough for me, as I eagerly anticipate the revamped edition of Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch. Just like how the remaster of the original game breathed new life into Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii U in 2015, it seems that this sequel is also in store for a much-deserved update. The game I first played back then was a brilliant yet imperfect gem, and with the latest trailer hinting at improvements, Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch promises to be one of my most exciting gaming experiences of 2025.

This list covers not only the initial edition of Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U but also its upcoming version on Nintendo Switch. Keep in mind that there are a few minor spoilers included.

In the initial Wii U release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, some players experienced difficulties due to tiny text and a cluttered user interface. Fortunately, these issues have been improved upon in the Switch remake.

Following the enhanced version of Xenoblade Chronicles in 2020, the revamped edition of game X is designed to boost and refine text clarity. The menus and field alerts have undergone a facelift, as suggested by the latest trailer where the player explores Qing Long Glade with an upgraded visual presentation. Everything appears crisp and tidy, aligning it better with other Xenoblade games on the Switch.

2. QoL Changes

Various Alterations And Quality Of Life Improvements Are Coming

Initially, “Xenoblade Chronicles X” on the Wii U was nothing short of fantastic, but certain aspects seem somewhat anachronistic nowadays. Fortunately, these issues are being addressed during the remaster process. In terms of combat, MonolithSoft has introduced Quick Recast, a feature that simplifies the use of arts and decreases cooldown periods, along with a visual guide for Overdrive combos. The Follow Ball has also been enhanced to provide additional mission-assisting information. Moreover, the level cap has been abolished, which was previously capped at 60 in the original version, offering greater gameplay freedom.

In terms of character customization, MonolithSoft has rolled out some noteworthy updates, particularly for the Switch adaptation of Xenoblade Chronicles X. Players can now utilize hairstyles and facial features from iconic characters in the game’s franchise lineage, such as Nia and Mythra. While these alterations may seem minor individually, they collectively demonstrate a high level of care and dedication by MonolithSoft towards the game, which is truly commendable.

3. New Characters And Skells

Brand-New Characters And Mechs Are Set To Debut

In the previews for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, MonolithSoft has not hesitated to showcase fresh content and personalities. Among the most thrilling unveilings are the new characters and Skells, the mechanized vehicles that players can control in the vast, sprawling world of Mira.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about the fresh additions in this upcoming game! We have Neilnail, a female Qlurian who’s just been unveiled in the latest trailer, and an unidentified Skell pilot that’s joining the fray. Not to mention, we’re seeing some new Skells too, like Hraesvelg, this sleek sword-wielding beast! It’s fantastic to know that MonolithSoft isn’t just cranking up the resolution and calling it a day, but instead, they’re pouring effort into making sure that this game is truly worth our time, whether you’re a seasoned player or a newcomer.

4. Brand-New Post-Game Content

The Cliffhanger On The Wii U Version Will Be Resolved

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but reflect on my unfinished journey in the original Xenoblade Chronicles X. Despite its groundbreaking open-world design, it left me hanging with an intriguing cliffhanger back in 2015. In a post-credits scene, Lao found himself stranded on a beach, face to face with a mysterious figure in black whose identity remains unknown till this day. This unresolved mystery has been a hot topic among gamers for the past decade, and now, the Switch remaster of Xenoblade Chronicles X aims to tie up these loose ends.

Similar to how the 2020 remaster of the initial Xenoblade game introduced new content set on the Floating Continent, the upcoming version of Game X will follow suit with post-game material that takes place in this very location. If we take the exceptional post-game content from Xenoblade Chronicles, titled Future Connected, as a benchmark, then players can expect an extraordinary experience when the Switch edition of Game X is released. This isn’t just about wrapping up a plot thread that has been hanging for a decade; judging by the newest trailer, it seems the post-game content will amount to a significant story expansion – something truly exciting!
