CI Games is The Latest Company To Rebel Against ‘Forced DEI’

Lately, the Chief Creative Officer of Arrowhead Studios, Johan Pilestedt, voiced his opposition to incorporating DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion) elements in games as a mandatory aspect. He clarified that if these elements don’t enhance the gaming experience, they can potentially diminish it, implying that games with enforced DEI may not be considered ‘high-quality games’.

Currently, the game publisher CI Games, known for Lords of the Fallen series, has adopted a similar position regarding DEI (Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion) in gaming. During a recent investors’ discussion, their Global Marketing Director, Ryan Hill, asserted a firm standpoint. He explicitly mentioned that the company will refrain from incorporating ‘social or political organizations into these game experiences’ due to the perceived risks involved.

‘Many Players Do Not Appreciate This’

During a recent conference call with investors, Ryan Hill, who leads global marketing at CI Games, expressed this in a statement obtained by Investor’s Zone: “… (he shared some information here)…

In recent times, certain video games have integrated social or political messages into gameplay, however, it’s evident that numerous players find this intrusive. Consequently, several prominent game launches have faced disappointing commercial performance over the past year.

Moving ahead, we’ll focus on creating our games to ensure maximum fun for players and financial profit. This means we won’t include social or political entities in our games due to the potential risks involved.

Similar to Johan Pilestedt from Arrowhead, Hill understood that forcing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into games merely to check a box or serve an agenda might lead to more damage than benefits, as has been observed in recent times. This is one of the reasons why numerous games receive the label ‘woke’ and subsequently face review bombing.

In his subsequent social media update, the head of CI Games, Marek Tyminski, emphasized once more that they have no intention of incorporating Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI) aspects into their video games as a means to align with political or societal trends.
