Skate 4 Opens Playtest to PS5 and Xbox

Skate 4, now known as “skate,” is the forthcoming free-to-play, continuous game in the series of skateboarding games from Electronic Arts.

There’s still a lot unknown regarding the latest Skate game, but this much is clear: not all fans will be thrilled with the direction the franchise seems to be heading in.

It’s challenging even for fans of such games to envision how Electronic Arts (EA) can change the famously tough and simulation-focused skateboarding series into a live service game.

Regardless of the choice, eager gamers can enroll for a preliminary testing phase, as console playtesting has commenced immediately. The registration process has been ongoing for a while, yet it appears that the developers are welcoming more participants into the game as its launch draws near.

As of January 9, 2025, registrations are open for PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5.

Please take note that this isn’t a public beta test but rather a limited playtesting session. As per Electronic Arts’ registration site, any form of video recording, screen capture, screenshot sharing, or live streaming of the game content is forbidden.

It appears that video recordings from the playtest have been published on the game’s YouTube channel, but instead of raw gameplay footage, they are presented as thrilling “highlight reels” or collections of the best moments.

To summarize, it’s challenging to predict what Skate will turn out to be without participating in the playtest. Fingers crossed that there’ll be room for all, but if not, Skate is set to launch in Early Access by 2025.

When Does Skate Come Out?

Although the game “Skate” is slated to start its Early Access phase in 2025, we currently do not know when the official release will be.

It appears that the team responsible for Skate is quite open about sharing updates on the game’s progress, given their frequently updated official YouTube channel and widespread presence on social media.

It’s interesting to note that despite the year being 2025, there’s no set date yet for the start of Early Access, and we’re still uncertain whether the game will be released on both PC and consoles at the same time.

It’s likely that the early access launch of Skate hasn’t occurred yet, given how close it seems wouldn’t have escaped our notice. So, it appears that we might need to wait a bit longer for its release.
