In the manga “Chainsaw Man,” the Octopus Demon represents the human fear of octopuses. Hirofumi Yoshida, a Human Hunter of Devils, is bound to this Octopus Demon. The specific cost Yoshida must pay to harness its powers remains unknown, but in Chapter 189, it appears that Yoshida might have swapped parts from another human’s body with the Octopus Demon to shield himself from harm. With another person’s consent, Yoshida can utilize that individual’s body part as a means to summon a considerable chunk of the Octopus Demon’s power.
Yoshida skillfully employs the Octopus Devil’s powers in various manners. By crossing his middle finger over his index finger, he creates an imitation of an octopus, which then summons a large tentacle. This trick enables Yoshida to employ the tentacle as a protective barrier.
Whenever Yoshida utters the word “Ink,” the Octopus Devil I’m so fascinated by unleashes a massive cloud of ink-like smoke, catching my adversaries off guard with a sneak attack! It obscures his movements, enabling him to creep up behind enemies for an assault. However, if I’m facing a skilled opponent, the smokescreen can hinder their movements too. Sometimes, this tactic might not be effective.
Despite limited knowledge about the nature of the Octopus Devil, it appears remarkably obedient towards Yoshida. Often, as observed with the Fox or Ghost Devils, these two entities require a fee to be paid before granting their abilities to their contractors. Similarly, it seems that the Octopus Devil’s powers can be freely utilized by Yoshida during his interactions with Kishibe, while the Octopus Devil engages in combat against Santa Claus’ Dolls. The specific terms of the agreement between Yoshida and the Octopus Devil regarding such large-scale use of its abilities remain unclear.
Octopus, Mouth, Snow, and Bitterness Erased
Following Denji’s transformation into the genuine Chainsaw Devil, Pochita, upon seeing Nayuta’s dismembered head on a sushi conveyor belt, Pochita starts consuming the demons he encounters. While Yoshida is employed by the Public Safety Devil Hunters, his responsibilities include rehabilitating Pochita with the assistance of the Octopus Devil. Regrettably, this arrangement does not prove successful for either Yoshida or the Octopus Devil, as in Chapter 174, Pochita eliminates the Octopus, Mouth, Snow, and Bitterness Devils.
How did the Octopus Devil make its return?

Earlier, it was stated that Pochita consumed and eliminated the Octopus Demon while on his destructive spree. Subsequently, Denji, Asa, and Yoru have managed to enter the realm of the Elder Devil. Previously, the Elder Devil had been tasked by the Public Safety Devil Hunters to control Pochita. Yet, this comes at a terrible cost.
The Elder Devil proposes a bargain to the Safety Demon Hunters, stating he would be consumed and eliminated by Pochita under the condition that 10,000 Japanese-citizen children, ranging from infancy to nine years old, are sacrificed in front of mirrors. Without hesitation, the former Finance Minister Tadashi Hasegawa agreed to these terms and arranged additional funds to gather children within that age group.

Shortly following the settlement of terms, Yoru assaulted the Elder Demon, transferring both their consciousnesses into the realm of the Elder Demon. In this dimension, entities don’t require sustenance like food or water; instead, they gradually transform into trees over time. When the tree decays completely, their minds and bodies are fully absorbed by nature, allowing them to revert back to their physical forms in the real world. Finding no way out, Denji and Asa began to quarrel until Pochita coerced Denji to vomit up the Snow and Bitterness Demons.
In this scenario, Denji and Asa got their first inkling of a possible escape when Denji discovered that Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil’s stomach, was somehow still in our reality. Once Denji understood he could consume humans transformed into trees, his appetite grew, and Asa fashioned a rough ax to chop down these trees. Inside the trees were trapped humans, which Denji consumed for sustenance. However, this strategy alone proved insufficient to help them escape their predicament, as they remained stuck in their situation despite Denji using his heart chain to revive Pochita back into the real world.

Due to Denji’s swift decision-making, Pochita regurgitated Yoshida, who was bound by the Octopus Devil’s contract. This action effectively brought Yoshida back from being erased. All the Devils that Pochita had consumed previously have also returned in this manner. Making Denji vomit Yoshida, currently partnered with the Octopus Devil, may have been a wise move since Yoshida has demonstrated extensive knowledge about Devils. Although it’s only been a short while since Yoshida and the Octopus Devil returned, he quickly grasped the situation, devising a plan to insert his hand into Denji’s mouth, which is connected to Pochita’s stomach in the real world.
Yoshida employs the Octopus Devil as a means to bridge the gap between the real world, but he is promptly halted, along with Yoru, by the Aging Devil. As previously stated, Yoshida can swap his own body parts for those of others in order to access additional powers from the Octopus Devil. In this particular scenario, he swaps Fumiko Mifune’s heart for his own and summons the Octopus Devil to counterattack the Aging Devil.
