  • CLAMP, creators of xxxHolic, also known for other famous works like Cardcaptor Sakura.

I can hardly contain my excitement as a die-hard fan! The official sequel to the beloved manga “Holic” is set to continue after a few months’ hiatus! This masterpiece by CLAMP has always been one of their most popular works, running from 2003 to 2011 with a total of 19 volumes. Its anime adaptation aired from 2006 to 2008 and is currently available on Crunchyroll.

Back in 2013, the creators unveiled a follow-up called “xxxHolic: Rei“. But unexpectedly, the series took a break from July 2014 to April 2015. After that, new episodes were published sporadically until March 2017 when it was put on an open-ended pause.

The series has been officially announced for a comeback on April 21, 2025, in Kodansha’s Young Magazine. Previously, CLAMP had expressed their intention to resume serialization in 2023, but as of now, there’s no definitive schedule available. It remains unclear whether the serialization will be sporadic or regular, with possible variations like weekly, monthly, or another rhythm.

The initial narrative revolves around Kimihiro Watanuki, a teenager who is plagued by both supernatural and magical entities that remain unseen to others. As a result, he endures his ordeals largely on his own. However, one day, he encounters a shop owned by Yuuko Ichihara – a witch herself – and eventually takes up the role of her apprentice.

More Recent News From CLAMP

Fans of the series xxxHolic have endured long periods without updates, whereas followers of CLAMP as a whole have received regular updates recently, such as the publication of various manga editions under the CLAMP Premium Collection. As for Cardcaptor Sakura enthusiasts, they are still in anticipation for a release timeline for the Clear Card Arc anime continuation, which was first announced in 2023. However, since then, no further details have been shared.

On the flip side, not all updates have been positive. A few years back, it was announced that a Tokyo Babylon anime would release in 2021, but unfortunately, it faced cancellations following a wave of controversy. The controversies even escalated to lawsuits among production companies, yet no details have emerged about the resolution of these legal disputes. Initially, when the series was scrapped, a statement hinted at potential future Tokyo Babylon projects, but as of now, there’s been no official word on that front.
