The “Boruto” series has been enjoying consistent popularity lately and has significantly improved in quality, particularly after the start of the “Boruto: Two Blue Vortex” manga. It seems that the rebranding has benefited the manga, as even its sales volume has increased recently, a positive trend for the future. Most of the growth that “Boruto” has experienced lately can be attributed to the remarkable work by its author, Ikemoto, who collaborates with Kishimoto to present this extraordinary story to the readers.
Ikemoto skillfully weaves captivating twists into the narrative, leaving readers breathless, and significantly, fleshes out captivating supporting characters. When inquired about the origin of these outstanding characters, Ikemoto shared insights into his creative approach for character development.
How Ikemoto Creates His Boruto Characters
- Ikemoto Develops Characters Based On Need
- A Unique Twist Is Added To All Characters
Over time, Ikemoto has crafted some truly remarkable Boruto characters. It’s fair to say that the character development in the story has noticeably improved over the years. Initially, Ikemoto found it challenging when creating new characters and frequently incorporated established Naruto characters to enrich the plot because they were already familiar to audiences. However, now he seamlessly introduces compelling characters with distinct motivations.
Don’t touch the Seventh Hokage. – Kawaki
Ikemoto crafts his characters specifically to fit their roles within the narrative, which is often influenced by the current plot demands. This method, though not unusual among authors, offers an intriguing perspective when observed. What sets Ikemoto apart is that he develops characters primarily for the main cast, and these characters surprise fans with unexpected developments while also introducing a fresh twist to the storyline. As the tale unfolds, these characters become increasingly complex and engaging.
Ikemoto elaborated on his approach when questioned about designing fresh characters for the “Boruto” series as follows:

Upon being inquired about the method behind creating new characters for the “Boruto” series, this is what Ikemoto revealed:
In this story, characters like Ada and Hidari are developed based on their needs. For instance, Ada possesses powers that could make her rule the world, but she values love above all else and has an amusing side to her personality. Instead of following a typical path, Hidari shows similar abilities and techniques to Sasuke, but he is unique and unrelated to him in many ways. This narrative style is known as Gap Moe, which emphasizes the contrast between characters’ expected and actual traits.
Audience members might find themselves puzzled by Ikemoto’s concept of Gap Moe, essentially meaning a disparity between the reality portrayed and the assumptions made about a specific character by fans. This notion is aptly demonstrated by Ikemoto himself. In the Boruto series, Ada is characterized by an immense power, capable of accomplishing almost anything with her Omnipotence. However, contrary to what fans might anticipate from such a powerful character, Ada embarks on a personal journey driven by her lack of true love, choosing instead to forgo her potential for conquest and destruction.
From an outside perspective, one might say that Hidari shares a resemblance with Sasuke, given they’re clones. However, it’s evident to the fans that Hidari is far from being a carbon copy of Sasuke. Instead, he exhibits a more open personality and demonstrates an unyielding thirst for knowledge, setting him apart as a unique character, unlike what fans might anticipate.
Ikemoto’s Most Important Boruto Characters
Ikemoto Has Created Boruto And Kawaki To Be Brilliant Characters
In terms of the Boruto series, it’s no wonder that Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki, who play central roles in the story, are exceptionally well-developed characters. Although Boruto was not originally created by Ikemoto, he has undeniably shaped the character to his own style, infusing unique aspects into him and crafting him skillfully throughout the series. While Boruto may be on par with Naruto or other Naruto characters, his individuality sets him apart and makes him truly special. Over time, fans have grown fond of Boruto, and it’s hard to deny that his growth – both in terms of character development and power – has been nothing short of captivating to witness.
I want to be a protector like Uncle Sasuke. – Boruto
Regarding Kawaki, it’s primarily Ikemoto who has crafted the character, and without a doubt, he has managed to win over many fans. With a heart-wrenching backstory and an unwavering determination, Kawaki stands out as an exceptional character.
His development has been fascinating to behold, as fans have witnessed him transform from a distrusting person into someone who opens his heart to the family in Konoha. However, Kawaki is a complex character, whose actions can be divisive at times; but in his unique manner, he strives to do what’s right. This is the essence of Ikemoto’s concept of Gap Moe, and it is masterfully applied in this narrative once more.
The Most Overpowered Boruto Character So Far
Shibai Otsutsuki Stands On Top As The Strongest
Beyond strong character development, Ikemoto has skillfully built suspense by introducing extraordinarily powerful characters throughout the story. Characters like Momoshiki Otsutsuki, whom he extensively crafted, and more recent additions like Isshiki, have kept readers captivated with their intriguing overpowered personas. The latest rumor is about a god named Shibai Otsutsuki, and it’s clear that he’s a character worth keeping an eye on, even though he now resides in a different dimension altogether.
In the series Two Blue Vortex, Ikemoto has given fans intriguing and powerful characters, among whom Jura is the one grabbing everyone’s attention. As the storyline becomes more thrilling than ever, it’s clear that Jura will become even more captivating, and the narrative of Boruto will take another exhilarating twist. It goes without saying that while Boruto may not be the greatest tale, its author constantly strives to create engaging characters, and usually achieves his goals. Fans are eagerly awaiting the development of the existing Boruto characters, and to see where the story leads after resolving the conflict with the Shinju.
