Sledgehammer’s Multiplayer Creative Director Leaves After 15 Years

Over the past ten years or so, Sledgehammer Games, a significant contributor to the Call of Duty series, has experienced ups and downs. This studio is most recognized for hits such as Advanced Warfare, WWII, and Vanguard; these releases span a diverse range of Call of Duty titles.

Recently, I shared the news that after an incredible 15-year journey with Sledgehammer, I’ve decided to step away from my position as Multiplayer Creative Director. It was quite a ride!

Whatever Comes Next

In the post on Twitter (X), Greg Reisdorf wrote:

This past Friday marked the conclusion of an incredible 15-year journey at Sledgehammer Games. I’m deeply thankful for the invaluable experiences and the exceptional teammates I had the pleasure of working alongside.

Later, he delved extensively into Sledgehammer Games’ past, sharing numerous insights and valuable memories from his tenure at the studio. He disclosed that he was responsible for designing the memorable scene where Soap dies from his injuries in Modern Warfare 3 (2011). Furthermore, he admitted that working on Advanced Warfare was a tough task, but they managed to bring it to fruition.

Reflecting on it now, I can’t help but agree with Reisdorf that the ‘Pick 13’ loadout model was a contentious move in the Call of Duty community, and it’s something I personally feel shouldn’t have been implemented. Year after year, this topic continues to spark heated debates among fans like myself.

As a gamer, I take pride in sharing that I played a key role in bringing back the iconic Modern Warfare 2 maps for Modern Warfare III (2023). Now, let’s be honest, MWIII had its fair share of criticism as one of the less-appreciated Call of Duty releases in recent times. But, oh boy, the fan service was a delight! I was the mastermind behind some of those clever easter eggs and subtle nods that longtime CoD fans loved finding. It’s moments like these that make gaming a truly rewarding experience.

Reading through all of Reisdorf’s posts offers an abundance of nostalgic moments, making it an enjoyable read for typical Call of Duty enthusiasts.
