The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2’s New Villain Will Be Its Worst Yet

Summary

  • The Walking Dead: Dead City features a new villain that could make fan-favorite Negan look tame.
  • Kim Coates plays the role of a vicious billionaire named Brugal in Season 2.
  • Season 2 promises a mix of humor, violence, and zombies, with Coates excited for fans to meet his character.

In the original series, “The Walking Dead,” some truly dreadful villains have emerged, but in its spin-off titled “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” fans of the undead will encounter an especially terrifying one when it resumes for a second season. For those who’ve been yearning for the spine-chilling zombie encounters starring Jeffery Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, “TWD: Dead City” is slated to return on AMC at some point this year. The latest teaser trailer, released a few months ago, hints that Negan, once again, seems to be slipping back into his old ways, as he can be seen whistling a haunting tune and also spotted with his bat, Lucille.

In “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” Maggie and Negan traverse zombie-infested Manhattan with the goal of rescuing Maggie’s son, Hershel, from the clutches of a man known as The Croat. Naturally, the city is teeming with more than just the undead, as it is also filled with hostile humans and gangs that pose threats at every turn. Previously in season one, viewers witnessed Negan being pursued by a lawman named Armstrong and coming across a ruthless group of survivors called The Burazi. Now, it appears that they will face off against another villain who seems poised to challenge even the formidable Negan.

Kim Coates Talks About His Villain Character in Dead City Season 2

During an interview with MovieWeb regarding his upcoming Netflix show, American Primeval, actor Kim Coates found himself discussing his anticipated role in season two of The Walking Dead: Dead City. Coates, renowned for playing a variety of ruthless characters such as Alexander “Tig” Trager on FX’s Sons of Anarchy, admitted that he has never portrayed a character as vicious as the one he will play as Brugal, which he believes was specifically tailored for him.

Eli Jorné, the series creator, chose me for the role and said ‘You need to portray this character,’ to which I replied ‘Please send me some script excerpts.’ They did, and let me tell you, this character was tailor-made for me. He’s a despicable man; he’s just bad through and through, yet incredibly intelligent, being a billionaire. During the zombie apocalypse, he resided in a lavish enclave in Manhattan, and upon emerging, Manhattan was overrun by zombies. He assembled his own group, and in Season 2, there are three or four such groups. My character’s name is Brugal, and I am undoubtedly the most prominent member of my team. I have killed many zombies.

While it remains uncertain whether Brugal and Negan may engage in a fight or even form an alliance, what is certain is that fans find it chilling to consider Coates’ character could be more ruthless than Negan, given his past actions. It’s important not to forget the horrific act Negan committed when he killed Glenn, the husband of Maggie, in one of the show’s most gruesome scenes. For now, these two characters seem to have come to terms with each other, but the volatile nature of the world in Dead City suggests this truce might not last forever.

Coates continued to express his affection for Jeffery Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, particularly highlighting their bond. Regarding the resurgence of ‘Dead City’ in season two, Coates hinted at a combination of humor, brutality, madness, and zombie chaos. He also mentioned that fans of ‘The Walking Dead’ are eagerly awaiting the introduction of his formidable character.

At the moment, you can stream season one of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” and “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” on Netflix. Unfortunately, we don’t know when exactly season two of “TWD: Dead City” will be released, but it is expected to come out in 2025.
