It’s been disclosed that Tencent Holdings Ltd. and the Guillemot family are working towards creating a fresh project, which they aim to construct using Ubisoft’s resources as its base.
As reported by Bloomberg (with a paywall), it’s suggested that the Guillemot family could maintain ownership of Ubisoft, but Tencent would have increased influence over certain assets within a newly formed joint venture.
Reports indicate that Ubisoft is presently assessing their resources to figure out what might be transferred to the upcoming project they’re planning.
According to information shared by Ubisoft on January 9th, they have chosen consultants to explore and potentially implement strategies aimed at increasing their worth.
According to our own findings, TopMob reports that no definite decision or course of action has been made as of yet. The company is reportedly considering various options and seems to be favoring one direction over another. As previously mentioned on TopMob, the Guillemot family and Tencent may be holding off on a final decision until the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which could significantly impact the company’s future.
Another approach to save the company has previously involved selling it to Tencent. However, the Guillemot family’s aspiration to reclaim creative authority seems to have halted this potential path for the time being.
According to Ubisoft’s yearly financial statement, Tencent and the Guillemot clan hold approximately a quarter (25.4%) of Ubisoft’s common stock and nearly three-quarters (29.6%) of the company’s voting power.
Tencent and the Guillemot family collectively own about 25% of Ubisoft’s shares, and they also control around 29.6% of the company’s decision-making rights.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows, following a second delay, will now be launched on March 20, 2025.
Ubisoft has several high-profile games in the works and scheduled for release by the end of 2026. These include remakes of popular titles like Splinter Cell, Far Cry 7, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Black Flag Remake, Hexe, Ghost Recon Over, and a remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, along with some smaller projects based on established IPs. Some other games, such as The Division 3, the Rayman Remake, another Assassin’s Creed Remake known as Stardust, another Assassin’s Creed RPG, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 are still in development but further from completion. The latter is making steady progress.
